I have been giving some thought to the point system we use in the northeast. I have an idea on how we might be able to boost entry's at local tournament's and put a few dollars in pullers pockets. Here it is,
Why not set up a system were everyone wanting to participate would pay 50.00 at the beginning of the year. This fee would be put into an account until the end of the year. Through out the year each competitor would earn points for placing in all the events they participated in the northeast. This would include all orginizations in the northeast.
Points would be awarded as they are now 1st-10pts. 2nd-7pts. 3rd-4pts. 4th-1pts.
At the end of the year the top 10 would be awarded a cash prize. The amount of the prize would be determined by the amount of people that entered at the beginning of the year.
Example: 30 people pay 50.00 30x50.00= 1500.00
10-3.5 percent 9-4 percent 8-5 percent 7-6 percent 6-7 percent 5-8.5 percent 4-11 percent 3-13 percent 2-17 percent 1-25 percent
I think that this would help bring more people to local events and make it more competitive and fun. Any one else's thoughts?

I think that is a good idea..........also I think all the tournament director's should put up 100 dollars for every event they have to sweeten the pot.
a lot logistics would have to be worked out for this to work and i would be willing to help out.

That would be great Chris if event holders would be willing to add to the pot. I also appreciate the offer for helping to get this idea started.

I thought of something like that for Pa. I just never got around to pitch it to the directors here. It would work in the NE as a whole as well. Here it goes:
Get some tournament directors together (a few, or as many you can get in the NE) Determine an amount of money that ea. director throws in. Collect all the money, announce what tournaments are for points, and run them as normal. You would have to come up with what classes count, how many you can pull, how far down to pay ect.......It may give some "middle of the road" guys an incentive to get out and try. For the most part you got your top couple thats pretty much a sure deal, but you got a lot of others that knowing if they got a shot at something, may come out and try to mix it up. JMO
Pretty much what you said Jeramie but the directors foot the bill, and hopefully if it works out they make a return with an increase of entry's that they may not normally have.

the IAF needs to get a set of weight classes and stick to them.

Thats not a bad idea either Snook. Althought I don't think it would hurt for the pullers to contribute something as well. Gives them some incentive to go out and get there money back.

I like the idea.
Frank, what would be a good set of weight classes? Are they anything like what I offer for the Fall Classic??

I've actually been working on a Northeast Ranking tourney. The top 6 listed in the top ten are automatically in. Anyone who wants to fill the last four spots will have a "pre-tournament qualifier" to fill last four spots. Yes it is before the ranking tourney begins. After the top 10 have been established, they are placed in the brackets according to their place on the list. Winners of each class get $500.00 cash. No trophies for anyone, just cash for the winners. How you doin!!! Jim

The bottom 4 pull the same day as the Rankings tournament?

Yep, You wanna be ranked in the top 6, you've gotta earn that spot. Once you've earned it, then you pull for the cash. This would be an annual tourney. Other tourney's throughout the year could change the rankings, but this would be the reason to be ranked as high as possible.

I am not saying divide this by class, I am saying the top 10 over all. Just like the IAF does now.

Thats not a bad idea either Snook. Althought I don't think it would hurt for the pullers to contribute something as well. Gives them some incentive to go out and get there money back. Wouldn't the pullers be contributing something with their entry fee's?. Meaning guys that may not go to certain tournaments would, to get as many points as they could. Every time they went to a tournament they normally wouldn't, they contribute...right?

Jim, how do you determine the top 6 if a classes rankings are not current or don't have a ranking at all?
