My brother and I have been throwing around the idea of holding an event and only awarded cash prizes. The catch is the prize money would be determined by the number of entry's in each weight class. More entry's, more money given out. This would be the same for all classes, novice, open.master's and ladie's. How many pullers out there would attend an event like this? What do people think of the idea?

I would prefer a trophy (unless it was really big money).
For me, a tourney in northern NH or Vermont is going to keep me away for around 10-12 hours total, when you figure in driving time and competition time. In 10-12 hours, I could make way more money at my real job than what I could make at the tournament.
So it is never about money for me....

But i would rather pull and potentially get paid for it rather than busting my ass working. But i think there are number of variables that need to be carefully looked over; Entry fee-if too much, not many people will compete. If too little, the prize money is too small for some peoples appetite. I think its a kick ass idea. Ill be there for sure!

The Idea is sound but I think you need a base amount given away for each class and then tell people there weight class prize money will increase depending on how many entries you have....
Let's say start off with $100 split 3 ways for each class...then if 10 people enter you add say $250 to the pot to make it $350 split at 30 bucks an entry....JMO

I think Chris' concept is great. I think if there were a super match or two with big names, that would bring in more people.

I was thinking holding it in Manchester NH, it is 2 hours closer for most people then holding around my hometown area. I can understand the more money more people idea. The thought process is trophys cost can add up fast, espicially if you dont fill the classes. Then you get stuck with trophys you cant really use. I was also thinking along the lines of holding a possible 4-way match if we could a sponsor or the host to put up some prize money. I understand that some people would like a trophy unless it is a large payout, but the economy is in the can so there isnt a lot of money out there. The incentive would be to have more people=more prize money. Say an entry fee of 25.00. Pull as many classes as you like. We would run all the weight's from 176-243+ right and left in the open and offer a novice right and left with 4 classes. Maybe 2 masters right and left. You wouldnt get rich but you could make a few dollars and have a good time pulling. I know it isnt all about the money. I enjoy earning a trophy as much as the next guy. What about giving the 1-3 place finishers the option of trophy or cash?

The option of cash or trophy sunds good. But, then wouldn't you be losing a ton of money on the trophy's you buy and people take cash instead?

If we run it with then concept of cash or trophy you would have to wait and have your trophy mailed to you. We would order them after the event so we could order only what we needed.

I like the idea, Jeramie try getting local businesses to sponsor weight classes, put their name on all flyers, any advertising etc. That may bring in some money before the event even starts. That way you have cash in hand to draw more people.

I would prefer a trophy.
Then, if you got a sponsor, kick in some of that into a couple of cash boxes for excitement, in addition to the trophies.
I'm just giving my opinion. I don't travel much, but this is one I'd like to make if I could get myself to take the ride.
