Sweet. 160 should be a pretty good class. Me, you, Nathan Harrison, Jeremy Fraley, maybe we can get Erick Z.
We should have Darnel Burris, Jamie Fortenberry, Dustin Cook, Jamie Harrison, Jeremy Cook, Roger Pareja, Jimmy Mabe, Alan Eudy and Chase Eudy will round out my guys. I MIGHT can even drag Chad Efird back again. It's been a year since he has pulled so that's about right for him!

OK, here is what we are going to do. We are going to pay out money for this tournament instead of trophies. Based on some input from my pullers, we are going to add all the entry fees together that are received and divide it by 8 (There are 8 classes). We will then pay 1st and 2nd out of that money. If we have more than 60 entries we will pay 3rd place as well. Example.....
There are 50 entries. 30 are first class entries @ $20 = $600. 20 are 2nd entries @ $10 = $200. That is a total of $800 entry money. Divided by 7 is $100 per class. That would go $70 for first and $30 for second place. I will make the decisions as to how it is divided up and let everyone know before the tournament begins.
Note.... This tournament will be run and reffed by volunteers just like it was last year. That way we can give out more money. The first $30 worth of entry fees will go to pay for all the copies for the entry forms/consent forms and the copies that will have to be made of all the different brackets. I am going to do everything for the tournament at no charge of course but I will not charge myself for my 2 entry fees. I wanted to put this out there so we won't have any problems with it at the tournament. Any change that can't be divided out by 8 will go to me for use of the tables, straps, chalk, etc.
Sound like a plan? The more entries we get the more we can pay out. Who thinks they can make it?

At this point I would like to make this tournament. It fills a giant void between Giles' tournament and Nationals.
Tim, weren't you guys going to put on another tourney at Gateway?
Rick, if I could just make a suggestion to tweak your format, maybe you could make the classes 170, 210, and heavyweights for both arms. These would be a compromise between your left- and right-hand weight classes so that your left and right classes are the same. This would also reduce the number of classes to 6, making the payouts a bit bigger.
Just a thought.

One the opposite side of that, I think at a small tournament like this one some of the smaller guys will get greedy and try to win money in more than one class. That would up the number of entries as well. I'll ask my guys what they think!

Erick - I need to talk to Ryan about the date. The last time we talked about it I think he was leaning towards sometime in June.
Rick - As it gets closer to the tourney and it looks like there could be a nice turnout, would you possibly consider having a novice class. We have some newer pullers in Wilmington that are interested in coming, but I think they would get more out of it if there was a novice class or two. Maybe like a 0-185, 186+ or something like that. Just throwing the idea out there... Either way, I'm excited!

Yeah Rick, I know it's a balancing act to pull in the most entries. Too few weight classes might scare pullers off and too many dilutes each class.
Tim, it's nice to hear you got such a good group going in Wilmington! Whom else would be coming with you? Ryan? Scott? Nick?

Yes I will look into that. Without awards it's not hard to add a class at the last minute. Just remember, this is not going be a GET A GRIP type tournament. It's a small tournament setting. If we can get 60-70 I'll be thrilled. If we do not have a novice, I will at least pair up any novice that we have first round. I will also try to not put training partners against one another for the first round as well.

Vincent is one of the Wilmington guys. He and Ryan Strange are both monsters in the making. Ryan is coming for sure. I haven't talked to Nick Margus or Scott yet since this tournament posted. We also have another guy that just started training with us and may want to come too.

Ok. I changed the original post. After MUCH discussion, WE have decided that we will make right and left classes the same so that a person won't have to be light to make one weight class and then be underweight for the left handed class.
Weight classes are as follows: 160, 190, 220 and HEAVY right & left
Novice will be evaluated the day of the event but my first thought is that we will probably stay with just open since this event will be small. I'm not ruling it out, just being honest so you will know where I stand as of right now. Hope we can get enough to pay a 3rd place!
Remember, the more people talk about coming, the more others will want to come. If you are thinking about coming, post it please. Some run from competition but most are running TOO competition! The more the better.
