I agree with Big Herm and RVJ also. Most of the elite 220-240lb guys are the same guys that can also win just about any open class in the USA. Also, too many classes is what makes our tourneys wayyyyyy to long and long ass events lead to bored people.
Annnnd Gobby is right. There are very few humans walking around over 240 lbs with low body fat (< 10%). Mr. Lupkes is of course the exception to the rule. But, I think I also remember seeing a pic from 79-80 of him a while ago (full bearded, grown man) competing in a 198lb class in a sitdown tourney!!! I've worked out pretty hard over the past 7 yrs, drank my protein and prolly pulled 1000 hrs of table time and while I'm a lot stronger than I was in the beginning and look the part, I have gained 0 weight except for my hunting season/occasional fatness. What's the secret to gaining 100lbs well into adulthood and still staying lean?

The answer Tim, is because you guy bring the most Tourque to the table. Much like heavyweight boxing matches garner the most attention. I'm simply talking about body composition, not ability or strength.
We can talk about this more next weekend when you buy me a cranberry juice.

Mr. Gobby, I understand what you are saying. Guy it will be great to see you again, like you always say old bastards rule. Giles in 1979 I weighed 295 pounds. Last time I pulled a 198 pound class was in 1974. Yes I really am older than dirt!
