I've always heard that a large hand is an advantage in arm wrestling. I'm curios though just how big a hand has to be to be considered large in arm wrestling. I looked it up on the internet and found that the average man's hand size is 7.44" long by 3.3" wide. The average for women is 6.77" by 2.91". My hand is 7.6" by 4". Incidentally I'm 5' 7" and have wrestled in weight classes ranging from 150 lbs. and up. What is your hand size and what size would you consider advantageous?

Certainly others can elaborate more on it but another crucial measurement of ones hand in relation to its "largeness" for Armwrestling is its thickness. So add that to the qualifications of a "large" hand.
Just cause, from wrist to fingertip is 8" width 3.75" and thickness at knuckle a paltry 1.25". Not gifted with mitts obviously.

I think people get way too hung up on hand size, and in my experience the length of your hand is probably the least important dimension for armwrestling. Even the shortest fingers are long enough to contain using flat finger pressure, it just takes a stronger hand because obviously position is king, and short fingers don't give you much margin for error.
Having an extremely wide palm is where the most advantage comes in, followed by thickness at the base of the thumb. Just my opinion, but long fingers shouldn't scare you in the least. It just means you don't have to worry- monster-fingers on the other side of the table can do all the holding on while you concentrate on attacking.

When I was really into arm wrestling, I actually used to train that muscle at the base of my thumb to enlarge it.

Here's a link to an old post discussing this: northeastboard.com/thread/19438/hand-percentile-chart-bigThis is what mine was then. I'm about 245 now, so I'm curious if my hand circumference is bigger: Palm Width - 4.3 inches Hand Height - 8.7 inches Hand Circumference- 9.4 inches 6' 2" - 220lbs

Thanks for posting that Chris. My hand circumference is 9.5" so my had is above average in that category.
