Important Anti Doping at 2015 USAF National Championship

As previously communicated the USAF US National Championships will be a tested anti doping event. We aspire to be completely transparent about the substances that will be tested for as such they are listed below for this purpose. All of these substances are commonly banned in sports all over the world. Please keep in mind this is a sport not a debate about an individual's right to make their own choices. If you want to compete you must be compliant with these rules and banned substances.
Athletes must be prepared to detail any substances, vitamins, supplements or medications that they are taking. In the event that you draw a test you will be asked to detail all of these substances to ensure we have a clear understanding of what you are taking and why.
Any athlete that believes they have a Physician endorsed medical need to be using these substances must obtain approval from the USAF well in advance of the event. This can only be facilitated after the athlete has provided all requested documentation and substantiation to the USAF then allowing the USAF to consider the athletes request for a Therapeutic Use Exemption, (TUE). The USAF reserves the right to be the sole determiner of granting a TUE. To clarify, simply because you have a prescription for Testosterone does not mean the USAF will allow you to compete while using the substance. The intent is to ensure safety and create parity in the sport, as such a prescription does not grant any athlete the right to be enhanced while competing at the USAF event.

Robin, you might want to check it out. Estrogen levels that are too high can test positive.

Estrogen levels are a paramount concern when anabolic steroid use is considered, as estrogenic side effects are probably one of the most focused-upon aspects of anabolic steroid use and anabolic steroid side effects.

Interesting stuff. I'm not yet able to compete with the women because I don't meet all the requirements but because I'm taking hormone therapy to meet the requirements I could test positive in the men's class for steroid use . well good thing I don't gamble I would be broke =)

Estrogen conversion from the excessive use of some forms of steroids is very real, however you would fail from the metabolites in the steroids you were taking, not from the presence of extra Estrogen.

As you can see from the list Estrogen is not a substance that is being tested for. The testing is for any substance listed and only those substances or the metabolites from those substances.

For example, Ethylestrenol is on the banned list, however if you take Mythlestrenol it is the same product simply with a Methyl precursor for suspension instead of an Ethyl precursor. This is common in all anti doping programs because supplement designers are using the loophole of the exact name and precursor make up to claim the substance is not banned because it is listed in only one way. When in reality it is the same product simply delivered in a different manner. It is the equivalent of powdered cocaine vs. crack cocaine, same basic banned substance delivered in a different fashion.

How is the testing done, is it the same way as WAF - random testing for top 3 in each class? How many tests total? Really awesome that USAF is testing this year!!!

This is a great first step. What is this going to do for the entry fees, and will this extra cost be "peanut buttered" over everyone's entry fees? Who gets tested, top 3? What are the consequences for a positive test? Where is this written down?

Just thought I'd ask because I can see these questions coming up.

The top three athletes in each of the men's open categories, both right and left handed will draw to randomly determine who will be tested. All of these finals athletes must have their photo IDs with them at all times.

If a top three athlete is not present to draw for testing, that athlete will automatically fail the drug screen process and be sanctioned accordingly.

Any athlete that attempts to evade, tamper with or otherwise refuses to comply with any portion of the anti-doping process, testing, requirements or testing instructions will automatically fail the drug screen process and be sanctioned accordingly.

I didn't realize how many drugs are tested for with these panels. This is a good move in my opinion.
