Hey everybody! I heard that it was both right and left arm in Vegas. But it´s ONLY FOR THE MEN!!!! Do anybody know WHY? It´s a long way for me to travel and expensive to pay the trip just to pull with only the right arm. There are also a whole lot of different classes that the men can attend, junior, master, grandmaster, beginner AND senior (which is ALL both right and left arm, eccept for the beginners class). In the woman classes there are only RIGHT ARM and two weight catagories! For me it´s kind of strange since all of the rest of the classes is in right and left arm, but not the ladies. Or have I got things all wrong? I know that I might be known as the "feminist-armwrestler" but is it really fair??? Maybe there is a good explaination for this??? Curious!!! Malin

Malin, I don't know what kind of competitions they hold for the ladies in Europe, but I personally am thankful that there are TWO classes for us! Probably an explanation would be that when the numbers of female competitors become as large as the men, perhaps the number of divisions will increase as well. Back in the days of the Yukon Jack series in the early 90's, one of the few if only, money tournaments around, there was ONE open division for the ladies. So, at 135 lbs. when I first started, I would pull against many who were 50-100 lbs. heavier than myself. At that time, they had 3 classes for the men. So, to have even one class was better than none. But, two are better than one. Just my take on it...

Chris Coletti!
What do you mean with "your world"?
Can´t see on the picture, but are you sitting in wheelchair? (that´s the only think I can think of when you say your world since armwrestling don´t have that much competitions for the "disable-classes"). If so, that is also what I work with in Sweden too, to increase the "disable-classes". There is one armwrestling club in Stockholm that have made a stool so that people in wheelchair can pull with people that stand up, and can compete in which competition they want and they don´t have to wait for disable-classes (europeans, the worlds) to compete.
If you are interested I can send you a picture of it, it´s nothing special and it´s a simple think to construct. But like I said, I don´t know if that was what you meant when you said "welcome to my world"!

Elaine!
I am also very happy that there is 2 weight classes. The most competitions with woman in it it´s two ore one weight class, but if the men classes have left and right arm, the woman classes has it too.
I am not saying that there should be a master, grandmaster, junior division or something like that. I know there is not as many woman than men that armwrestle (and I might have the answer for that too ;D) but I am thinking that if...let us say 20 girls is in these two divisions in Vegas, then we have 20 girls that also could pull in the left arm...RIGHT???
I just wonderd why it´s only right arm for the woman, there wont be less woman that compete (maybe one or two?) that pull in the left category?
I don´t know how it is in Vegas and if the woman usually pull in the right arm in the States, in Sweden all of us pull in left AND right on competitions.
Well, that´s my thoughts! ;D

Malin,
Hey girl... Elaine is right -- the numbers here in the states are just starting to pick up again.. so as we add more women the classes and the money will come. Elaine only pulls right hand due to an left arm injury -- but for the most part 98% of the ladies I know do pull left and right. Hopefully next year as the popularity of the sport on the womens side increases we will see perhaps 1. more money and 2. a left hand division - at very least a left hand open class. You will not be disappointed at the competition that is in your class -- there will alot of girls from the West Coast - as well as ladies from all over the states - that are VERY TALENTED - so the trip will be worth it... Don't worry. I myself am already looking at who is going to be in my class and that is going to be a FUN DAY of pulling.
The mens side is going to be AMAZING as well to watch. I adore of coarse my boys from South Carolina - Chad, Matt, Kevin, Alex and Todd whom are going to rock the Plaza -- but also Matt Girdner, Travis Bagent, Christian Binne, and so on...
I personally can't wait. I think that no matter what class you are in or what weight class you pull there will be nowhere to hide - you are going to have to work your a** off for the prize money.
Now about Chris Coletti -- he is not paralized he is in the light(est) weight class and often times he has to pull the next weight class up because they would not have his. He is a great competitor and friend -- hopefully he will be making it to Vegas as well...
Talk to you soon my friend, Nicole

Chris Coletti!
Sorry that I missunderstood you! Yeah, it´s hard to have to pull in a heavier weight class then you usually pull in.
Malin
Nicole!
No doubt about it, it WILL be a great competion...but it would be even greater to meet all the girls in the left arm too since I have never met most of the girls in a competition before, that´s why I thought it would have been fun to have a left arm competition too. And it´s not cause of the prize money...it´s just for the competition.
Nicole...it will be GREAT to see you. And very interesting to see you pull and all the rest...I hope to see alot of my friends from the US too. Devin Bair for an example, John Brzenk, and also to see ENGIN, and all the people I have gotten to know here on the message board!
Now I have to go...have been updating my website the whole day...my back hurts.

I am a lefty...My world has always been a right handed world...
GNC "Only Right hand"...
Arnolds "Only Right Hand"...
AAA Masters "Only Right Hand" That's is what I meant by "Welcome To My World" It is a World that me..Christian B and most Lefties live in...I know Travis will come on and say "Be a man and train right!" well I am working on it my friend! When I first started pulling in 1986 they only had 2 classes left 0-175 and 176 + It was tough being 135!!! Now most classes get full left and right as will be the case with womens left soon. If you asked my wife she would indeed say I was disabled but only mentally!!!! ;D

Hi Chris!
I´m REALLY sorry for getting you wrong.
Left arm is not as big as the right arm YET..ha, ha. I know that many people around the world only pull in their right arm. In Sweden it was like that for awhile too. But I am so happy that it has changed here, even in the womans classes!!! In every competion (almost) it´s left handed classes too with alot of competitiors in it.
Me myself had a injury in my left arm for many years (like 7 years almost) but when I started to train at the gym 2 years ago I build muscles around the injury and can now compete in my left arm again without pain. I´m not as good in my left as I am in my right arm. But I am pretty strong and have a WHOLE other technique in my left arm than I have in my right arm. Plus...when you don´t win in your right arm you always have the left arm to compete in again (or vise versa). And I LOOOOOOVE to COMPETE!!!
Do you pull with your right arm too??? How big is the difference? Are you left-handed when you write too?

Hi Everybody,
I really understand Malin about weigh division and left and right question.
Here in Switzerland, we usually have 3 categories -60,-70 +70kg both right and left....
Left hand divisions for the ladies in Vegas would be welcome but it is probably too late for this.

After nasty letters (nasty but sweet) from Malin and Nicole, John and I have decided to hold a left hand division just like the right except it will be a non-cash prize event. We had to scrape to handle the $30,000 and that’s tops for now. We are working on a $50.000 tournament for next time. (If things go right).
