This guy is impressive. Just in my own opinion his benchpress impresses me more than most of the powerlifting competitions I have watched too. I know they put work into it, just im more impressed with a raw lift.

I like strength that is true and can be used in a day to day basis. In my mind I just don't see someone going to put one of the shirts on in a real life situation to have to apply their power. BTW I got 315 the other weeks. Surprised me since I haven't been benching much. I lifted like the guy in this video just down to my chest and back up no pausing. Not butt flying around or anything like that though. Good controlled form. I have heard some of the powerlifting guys tell me that with some of they shirts they have to PULL lighter weight down. I don't fully understand the reasons for the shirts??? But im also not a competition Bench presser. Chad used to compete in it so I learned a little about it from him. He had a massively raw bench though withouth at a shirt at 173lbs I think he said was right around 500lbs. His best ever with shirt I think he said was 525 or something like that

The idea of the shirt is simple------it adds weight to the bench, just the same as a squat suit does in the squat. Its a part of the sport, its governed under the rules. Most organizations provide separate divisions, so competitors can lift any way they like. The whole thing has evolved over the last 25 years or so to what it is today. It doesn't matter if people like it or not, its the way the sport is. What bothers me is the way uninformed people put down others when they don't have any idea what they are watching.

#1-----Rob is a friend of mine, and he is seriously balls strong. #2-----Anyone who thinks its easy to bench a lot with the shirt is seriously misinformed. #3-----You get weight out of the shirt via technique. Just like in armwrestling, technique is damn near everything. At my best I could get around 450 out of my shirt. #4-----The board is used for training and warmup-----stop being stupid. #5-----Quinn, you're a jackass. You have no clue what you are even talking about. I'm sure he is strong... I still think it's not a true bench press..my point does not have to be overruled or argued with. the video tells it all. I don't dispute the fact of the shirt or the block's purpose ,but they do offer some assistance..It is not a clean, full range, bench press...I don't have to know the whole synopsis of powersports to see that he is holding 1000 lbs above his chest and lowering it 4 inches..that's not even chest, it's all shoulders..........I'm a jackass? lol that's almost as funny as your appearance Yes, you are a jackass. You look at a promotional video put out by Rob's sponsor, talk crap about a guy who is a really good dude, and talk crap about the sport of powerlifting in general, with zero knowledge of what you speak. You start it out with "this makes me sick". That is a direct attack, unprovoked, because you don't happen to personally like a video you found on YouTube. That makes you a jackass. Its people just like you who promote all the hate spewed all over the internet, both in armwrestling, powerlifting, and many other small fringe sports.

Hey Shawn I know this off the topic of a stupin thread. But i follow TinyM. and Robs and Ryan K.'s lifts just hadnt seen your numbers at what body weight? I know freakish cause Big Rich L. and bob brown have mentioned freakish numbers. Armwrestling took away huge bench pressing from me but there was a time when I was 15 and 16 doing bigger raw lifts then average. Oh yeah and what organization did you compete in. in know there is a million

Over the years I lifted in IPA, SSA, WNPF, APF, and WPO, and maybe a couple of others along the way. Now I'm lucky if I bench twice a month.

Sorry guys I can't help thinking the shirt is kinda gay. I feel these guys are amazing athletes and should get the fame for the big lifts they do...And I understand this has nothing to do with them or the talent that they have .don't you think having the shirt is the ultimate in over exaggeration...like the fisherman that says I caught a fish this....big. without any proof to show someone. I guess my question is maybe to you Shawn if you had your way back in the day would want the shirts invoved or would you be happy with only raw events ? And let let me say I knew nothing about armwrestling when I started and the longer I do it the more I see I need to learn so I am not trying to be a dk just understand something that makes no sense to me. 405 2xs was the most I ever did I never had a shirt but if I did and I was able to do 100lbs more I don't think I would ever tell anyone about any lift other thn the 405. Please enlighten me

When I used to bench, my best ever was some gym lift, touch and go double with 400# or 405#, raw. Around that time I messed around with some variations of lockouts in the rack. I put the pins in to where the weight was about 2/3 the way locked out and just benched it from the pins. I was somewhere in the low 5's and it felt horrible, like it was going to blow up my entire shoulder girdle. Shortened ROM or not, I can't imagine what 1000 would feel like just to take off the pins. Much respect to Rob!
