Sounds like those WAF WOLRD medals have a fitting symbolic misspell.

Sounds like those WAF WOLRD medals have a fitting symbolic misspell. LMAO! I didn't even notice that. Kind of sums everything up though....

That's pitiful. But something you can talk about for years.

OMG that is freakin hilarious! Those will be collectors items for ever, and a reminder to every country that even thinks about hosting a worlds, that Armwrestlers are not commodities for making money, but elite athletes that deserve quality and respect for earning the right to attend a world level competition.

I loved covering the worlds... but I get tired of going there and continually told I can't film on the stage. When Discovery channel showed up with a days notice and was given permission along with a young assistant who didn't even know armwrestling was a sport and given full access to whatever... AND WHAT CAME OF IT. I just about had enough. I was dying to go to Brazil...but ultimately no one at WAF sees a future with ARM TV in it so we are making our own arrangements for future content. Stay tuned.

My wife noticed the typo on the medal when I got home, I never really looked at it.
The last to years I have been just a hair away from having the US team stay in another hotel that I felt more confident with... near the event location, because in both of the last two years, the hotels were some major secret with very little intel and a lot of complexity. For various reasons each year I went along with the host hotel out of fear mostly of putting the athletes in a more complex situation regarding weigh ins, or access to other armwrestlers and assurances from the host that everything was solid.
Going forward... not anymore, no more staying at mystery hotels, I will do my very best to locate something appropriate very near and very easy to negotiate logistically and securely, (major hotel brand, go to the hotel website and you book like you would any other hotel). I really want to support the host hotels but the hosts are going to have to be dramatically transparent about the hotel and everything associated has to be handled in a very upfront manner.
I started researching Poland as soon as I got home.

Transportation, Hotel, venue, starting times, safety of the area at hotel and venue, price of hotel were all extremely poor. I will not be returning to Brazil for a Worlds.

I was't born in palaces, castles or huge mansions and I don't request luxury stay during the World Championship. But if we pay $160-200 for the room, at least, we want conditions equal to the price. For that " official" hotel room I would pay not much then $30 bucks a day. In that case I would know that " well, the room is not the best one, but on the other side I am saving some money".... . Just skip Brazil offer next time.....
