I am by no means a mechanic, but I could always work on the motor of my Chevy truck, I had nice simple, straightforward small block 350 put in it. So I agree with you about the simplicity of the cars of yester year.
Every time I have to pay some outrageous amount for a simple repair on my car I swear I am going to buy me a 70's muscle car and rebuild it from the ground up so that I know everything is up to snuff, subsequently I should get plenty of worry free use out of it.

Simon, the only bad thing about that idea is, the engine you put in there would not pass emissions! I am guessing of course since California is strict on their emissions? They seem to be able to cut the simplicitics out of everything that would make it easy on the little guy. I for one had a beautiful machine (to me at the time). You ready?........1980 Chevy Luv. Now-a-days that is a favored drag truck and that brings a tear to my eye everytime I see one suped up like one...'cause that is what I wanted to do with mine!!!!!! Ahem...hmm...ummm. The second one I had was a 1978 Firebird. Like your 350, it was a beauty to work on. With the Holley carb. (750 double-pumper), Eldebrock intake, pop-up pistons and a Crane Cam, I got in trouble several times with the local authorities. ;D

I know this is a guys' subject, but I'm going to jump in on it as well. My favorite car has to be the 1981 Delorean that we had. We bought it in 1987... it was truly a "looker" but by no means quick. Every where I drove it it seemed like someone wanted to race. We got rid of it after the insurance company realized what they were insuring! Other than that, I have always favored the Datsun280Z, 2+2's... we had a 1976, 1977 and a 1978... those were quick. The fun car had to be the MG Midget... Of course, these were all pre-Rainee, so now I'll just drive the Dodge Dakota until I can get the BMW I would like! Just my 2 cents...

I've always been a truck man. I have had all major brands , like them all , its all in how you treat them. My favorites though are my 1985 CJ-7's , one fire engine red , one light blue metallic. Don't like being in/riding in/ cars. I feel like a sardine.

Dont worry about it Elaine, this is not a mans subject. And it's good to see a woman jumping in on the action.

You are absolutely correct Allen here in the Peoples Republic of California, they have emissions standards on leaf blowers and RC cars. I would have to register it in either rural Nevada or rural Utah. I have my militia compounds there. The Chevy Luv, I had a foreign version, the Subaru Brat, my buddy gave me his old 32 inch tires after he got some 35’s from his brother, man you should have seen that Brat on 32’s with a Rancho Suspension kit, it was pretty silly but it certainly got a lot of attention. Though it never took the sting out of my parents getting rid of the Judge, I still torture my mom over selling that car. Follow this if you can, my mom and step father sold my Judge, (gas and insurance were too high so they alleged) gave me the Brat and they bought a Nissan Sedan, that is just criminal. I bet the Delorean was cool Elaine, I got rid of my Mustang convertible for the same reason I really liked it but it was not very kid practical.

My favorite car stock is the 1970 Chevelle SS 454. Hopped up is still my own 1970 Chevelle SS I have a 355 with a 6-71 Supercharger, Muncie M-22 RockCrusher and 3:55:1 Spool. The Engine was Dynoed at 850 HP but I tell everyone 900 just to keep up with that Dodge Charger in the movie Fast and Furious . I rarely drive it and usually that's only to car shows but I wish I could drive it all the time if I could afford the gas!!

I like trucks also. My favorite was my 81' Chevy shortbed, 6" lift and 35" Super Swampers! But if I had to pick a car I would say 69' Camero or 87' Buick Grand National!

My Wife and are car nuts!
WE also love trucks, I have a 69 mustang that I'm currently restoring, 351, I have modified. Not for racing but for the road. performer RPM cam and intake, holly 650, and lots of other goodies. Sunburst Yellow paint and all black interior.
I had a 67 that was race modified with a 289 hipo, you wouldn't believe how them little engines can run!
My wife has a 78 trans-am 6.6 liter Black but no t-tops. She also had an 88 t/a 5 speed that she loved.
We have a 02 F150 4x4 king cab that we fight over who gets to drive it to work. LOL
We love all the cars form the 60's pretty much.
1969 had some awesome machines on the road, camaro Chevelle Mustang Cuda vette
they were all nice cars that performed.
Just my 3 cents
Rick

Cool Topic!! Well it so happens Restoring and Customizing Cars is my Profession! I must say too the simplicity of the older cars is indeed more suited to us Backyard Mechanics. The Favorite car that i have owned is probaly between A 1968 Firebird (Hugger Orange) Ouch!!! sorry my wife just hit me..It was her car and i sold it!! Ouch! Quit it Susie!! sorry about the interruption... Then i had a 1967 Elcamino that was really fast and i did a Major 80's style Metal Flake Paintjob on it ( My wife sold this one to get even with me LOL ) But i have to say my interest is in Pre 1948's Cars.. I have a Pro street 1936 Nash Lafayette 3 window Coupe... With 33x21.5 Meats! I am still working on the Motor (Hot 350 ) I Channeled the body so it goes over the fram instead of on it, it is 9inches lower and looks mean! I think the Early Rat Rods and Roadsters are cool... Just My way of thinking...Sol
