First of all, I would like to compliment Gene Camp and the rest of the New York City Armwrestling Squad for doing a good job promoting the Big Apple Grapple and having a high quality venue and officials.
Even though the turnout could have been a little better, several notable pullers throughout the NorthEast were there and Klemba, Bryan, Bresnan did an excellent job officiating.
With all that being said, however, I am usually not one to go on this board ranting and being overly critical. This time, however, I cannot help but get my thoughts out there. I think that it was as clear as day to anyone at the tournament that while the above issues were handled well, the overall ORGINIZATION of the tournament was poor.
To name a few problems, we had inexpereinced bracketers who did not even make up brackets but were just keeping track of people losses as they happened. On one occasion I was marked down for a loss that I never had which was later fixed. On another occasion someone who was already eliminated from the touranment was given a third chance.
There were also several people ( I was one of them) who were put into the wrong weight classes and the mistakes were not caught until the touranment was half over. Names were not read in each class before the tournament began so that the competitiors could hear their name and make sure they were in the right class from the start.
One pro that had good matches with Klemba somehow got placed mistakenly in an amatuer class which was caught by an official halfway through the tournament. And one amatuer about 190 lbs. ended up in the same pro class as Travis Bagent.
Clearly, a lot of people were not happy and traveled good distances for a touranment that could have been run without these type of critical mistakes and much more time effiienctly if the right, expereinced people were working behind the table. Why were these things not thought of at such a largely promoted event?
And what was it with calling out numbers instead of names?
