Holy Crap James......Are you driving out here??? Bob, quoting a very wise man from the UK : I would shut my floppy dog in a door if I thought it would do any justice to the situation. It is all about getting it done. On the other hand I am not crazy lol. Nope considered it but the cost would actually end up being more than flying. My plan is to go ahead and see about accommodations before the deadline and continue to hound the prices and such until a little closer. If I find something I can go with then I am gonna move on it. If all else fails and I cant manage it I will cancel but I am not real keen on that since I promised I would do everything I could to make it . So....... I am definitely doing that. I have even exhausted the idea of bugging family members to look at their airline miles on the outside chance I could put together enough to either book the flight or cash and miles type thing. Northwest Airlines BTW sucks. They still wanted 25,000 miles and 350 dollars but wanted to set me on a 14 hour flight. I am a bit old to be put through that unless I was going to a worlds lol. I probably wouldn't have been beyond doing it but I think I fell short on the miles. still evaluating the situation but with a little luck and maybe a few open seats that need to be filled near the end I will get something I can live with. My overhead here is such that I have to cut down the expense from this one as far as possible or cave. Anyway we will see.

Hi Alper I always have time for you . I was just so deep in the do do trying to figure out how to get there so I can wreak havoc on you Ok so I am kidding too. If I do make it I am probably going to leave the open class alone and just try and get there for the masters classes. I know it will be a first for me but it would be very bold of me to think I could run through and open class and still bring a qualifying position into the masters class. I am still thinking about it so we will see but I will definitley be doing what is my smartest move. I hope very much to see you there. I am still negotiating but there is a possibilty that between Carey Nick and My brother that I will be able to make the trip. If Carey decides to go then I will still try another plan I have to watch for the precise time to bid a ticket lower. I have to put my financial position first but I am dead set on finding a way. I am still weighing out my options on how far I can carry through the tournament. I had a stamina problem in West Palm. I am working on that. It is all in the technique Take care and hopefully I will find a way. I am assuming your weight is right on yeah I had to say it !

Now its time to negotiate. The Truck is maybe usable but who gets sliced in the pecking order to ride in the bed? I am sure it is hot and in the mid 90s in the day right now. Hmmm by the Nationals you will be able to fry and egg in the bed unless you travel at night. Time to look at maybe picking 3 other people and renting a weekender rate. You can get a dodge Caliber for 17 a day. It is like between a station wagon and an SUV. split it four ways. A Little extra expense but if you get with some extra players it could be a good trip. Fuel Economy (City): 24 mpg. (average: 21.79 mpg.) 520 miles so on the weekend maybe 1200 depending on extra travel. so 55 gallons of gas at 4.29 = 240 bucks . OK enough with the equation. 80 dollars a piece for four people will handle your expense of driving and without wear and tear on a personal vehicle. It certainly isn't cheap anymore to go armwrestling. Crap..... Airline shows 231 dollars to fly from Reno. SO a flight is going to be about the same as gas would be without even including the rental car. Your truck gets 12? maybe 15 to the gallon. See they have you by the short hairs as well. I would think there would be a 59 each way . I think you could fly from San Diego for about 219 and it says 275 from sacremento but I saw some delta weekly specials that listed sacremento this weekend for 59 + taxes each way. I would be waiting until the week of and see about that special fill a seat from Reno. IN the end we all will deal with each situation and yes the economy is going to affect us all. I think the promoters are going to be adjusting quite a bit. One wrong move and falling flat in a tournament promotion can be terminal to someone who has invested time and money. It usually doesn't happen again and then another annual event becomes extinct. Time to break out the old cliche about a pimp driving a volkswagen night.

James I can't help but be entertained by your posts, I can not believe it but I am glad you joined the board, BRAVO. This car pooling thing brings back great memories as out here in Montana its a long way to get anywhere. In my first 8 to 10 years I don't remember going to a tournament with less than 4 people and with a van we were taking 7. The road trips were a blast. On another note, are you pulling in the 198 class?

Thanks Leonard , You know it really is true no matter how much things change they actually do stay the same. It has always been loaded with adversity our existence with the only answers coming by what kind of diversity that we could muster up. It was when I was younger but back then I was not beyond loading up everything under a tarp and bringing a poncho on several different rides from hell in the back of pickup trucks. I made a trip to Louisiana a couple times that way and once to Sabine Texas and then from Sabine to Galveston. At least at night with the wind blowing you didn't have to worry about the mosquitoes carrying you off Old sayings render quite a bit more wisdom than most realized. One which was "if your going to be dumb you gotta be tough" . It didn't lend to the accident of making mistakes or out of ignorance so much as it was a calculated choice of making a decision to do something that was pre-destined to discomfort . All along the way I made the hard road choices in order to get somewhere. I cant really say I regretted them but as I get older I find ways to avoid some of them. I am in the self preservation stage now hehe. Yes I plan on the 198 pound class. I am closing in and it shouldnt be a problem with the time I have left. I will be under 92kg by tonight. Gonna pull me some weeds.

It is also illegal to pump your own gas in New Jersey (only other such state) and it is also cheaper than all the surrounding states, I think because of insurance reasons.

Armwrestling has always been an "undergound" sport in my view. Despite the recent boom with the ArmTV generation, it doesn't change the fact that only a select population will be genetically gifted enough to compete and win. I know there are competitors that have been with it over 10 years and never placed at a tournament, but the general consensus is....find another sport if that's as good as your doing. I absolutely think that gas prices are going to hurt attendance at tournaments unless promoters (as mentioned in the first pages) start really amping up the local advertising. It costs me $70 to fill up my Lincoln LS VS yesterday compared to $48 a year ago. I definitely think twice before i drive anywhere anymore.

Karen we are at 4.09 here in Montana, is it cheaper in TN? Yep. We're under $4. Actually we just hit $3.88 this weekend. And we have 3 refinery's in a 20 circle around us here in Billings. Exxon, Cenex and Conoco. Guess it isn't a transportation issue
