Rob Sasso can make the number 3 click like a walmart gripper. It is actually pretty scary when you see it for the first time. But Christian is right. Paul Walther can't close the number 1 in practice and I can't mess with his hand to save my life.

James I'll second that, Paul has got some strong hands.
I would be lost with out all my grippers!

James: RIGHT about Paul....He loses ALOT in meets....Had to get that dig in ( love you Gorillaboy ), BUT no one has EVER taken his hand...And he has pulled all the greats, and had wars with many of them!

Closing a gripper is a very specific motion, if you don't train for it, you wont get good at it. That is why some fellows with really strong hands, can't seem to do any harm to even a #1 or #2 when they first try it. This has been talked about in the Gripboard.

For me when I get stronger with grippers, it doesn't effect my armwrestling strength. I don't use the COC's, I only have the HG's. My best was the HG300 2 times with each hand. I have to set it thought, can't just raw-paw it.

IronMind rates a #3 as 180 pounds. That is measured at the centre of the handles. At the END OF THE HANDLES, it actually takes 150 pounds of plates to close an average #3 and 209 pounds to close a #4. gripperhell.blogspot.com/2006/12/gripper-calibration-results.htmlI can close a #3 and a #3.5. I still have a bit to go for the #4 (which is the hardest part anyways). Closing grippers doesn't relate well to armwrestling. It helps to have strong hands and fingers but it is only a small part of the puzzle.

I can close the HG 250 pretty easy and the coc #2 but not my HG 300. I have stopped with the heavy grippers it hurts my hands for days when I try the heavier ones. I just do the 100 for high reps, with various hand angles now, seems to help.

Armwrestling wise: WHO CARES!!!!! For fun: Thats different.... This has been a thread before, somewhere: At the 02 Unifieds ( outdoors in 100degree heat ), I watched, so did others, Rob Sasso close ( clicking) the #3 20 times!..YES, you read correctly. 20 times!..I also saw him, with others, do it at Chris Myers house in 03 too!...OH and he was holding his arm straight out.....Like everyone else in armwrestling, sometime or another, I 've seen his wrist flop..... Also, watched Jason Vale close the #1 gripper HALF WAY!!!!!!!!!..THAT WAS IT!!!!!!!!...I am paraphrasing, but I remember him saying you don't armwrestle with a hand closed!!!!!!!! Just a thought...........Enjoy trying!!!!!!!!! #1- Christian is 100% right (again) with Sasso.. I have seen the 20.. #2- Christian's youtube video is my all-time favorite.. Love the power !!!!!!

Thanks for the info everyone. I've have found that grippers don't help me arm wrestle, but they are kind of addictive.
