So I go to this tournament (http://simonsentertainmentgroup.com/armwrestlingusa.html) this weekend in Oklahoma City at the State Fair.
Completely Novice type tournament with crazy "2 go" rules, anyway, I pull my weight class 170, & 1 up to the 200 class, so I take 2nd in my weight class to my training partner & National Champ Jim Coyle, no big deal, i win every other match in my class and take a loss to a National Champ, No problem.
-200 class, make it again to the finals undefeated and hook up with some guy, who hasn't pulled a tournament in his life or even seen a table........ever, a true 200lb guy probably + a few pounds ( you told them your weight for your weight class, and there had to be a 20lb waiver for classes, trust me, there were guys in the 170 class that would not have made weight for 98's) so, I hook up with this guy, while he leans onto the table with his butt sticking out, you know the novice set-up, his hand feels strong, but I'm not worried, mine is ok too, especially a tournament like this. Ready Go 1 , straight to a hook, Ready Go 2, i hit, go nowhere and get pinned no problem ( straight side/shoulder press ), Now, I am no professional, yet, however, I am bordering on that line, with some legitmate wins on seasoned pros as of late and definately not a pushover to a complete Novice at any weight. This guy was a BEAST, if he trained....DAMN, and you hear people like this all the time, but this guy, seriously, was no joke.
round 2 for first place with this guy, more of the same, although, this time I decided not to go straight to a hook and stay flat and try to not to get curled into a hook. He didn't curl me in, but his same move, straight to the side/press, I was done.
All I can say is, losing like this is like a kick in the nuts, but I'll be OK, and I've got a long way to go, but damn, at this point, i've prided myself in what I thought was a fact that I would just beat anyone off the street whether, it was hook, sweep, press, toproll, or whatever...and I have been doing just that, but not yesterday. Live and learn I guess, I just thought I would share my defeat across the F'ing internet, so thewre it is, if any similar stories, feel free to reply.
