Was wondering what kinda places sponsor you? and what kinda business places should someone try in a attempt to get a sponsor? Does anyone on here who has a business sponsor themselves or sponsor anyone in the sport?

I'd love to get a competition sponsor....would offer banners spaces on the board, wear their shirts, etc in return.

I've been sponsored three times in the past five years. It's not an easy task to get one but I have noticed that it's not so much how good you are in the sport. It's more about how many people you can reach out to.

This a good time of the year to ask (The first part Jan-May)

I usually go with the local gyms, their all big box gyms, And I just happen to know the general managers really well at all of these places, that and the bar I work at............

This would be one of the goals as the company grows. I have done a few small things for pullers who have asked for a favor here or there but nothing consistent.

I have two sponsors that will sponsor me for local events, and one of them sponsor me for the western states tourney's but, I still end up spending money out of pocket for tourney's. The sponsors that I do have are local business owners that I have really got along with them and I tend to send both of them quite a bit of business. All I can say is make some contacts and keep trying to meet as many people as you possibly can.

I have been very fortunate to have a friend of mine's business that has sponsored me for the 10 years now. He pays gas, food, hotel bills, and entry fees. His business travels a lot so all of my receipts are put in with his as a tax write off. In exchange I wear shirts with his logo on them whenever I compete. I also have a van that I have customized that has armwrestling logos along with his logo on the side. I also let him keep all of my trophies at his business which is really cool when you walk in and see walls of armwrestling trophies and know that everyone that walks in his place sees all of your years of hard work on display. I've got my fingers crossed right now though, because like a lot of businesses , he's struggling to make it through these tough economic times,so i hope he is able to weather the storm and make it through. Good luck to all of you in finding a sponsor. i hope you are able to find one that has been as generous as mine has and has allowed me to live my dream of being an arwrestler.

Just so you know, owning a home based business can make almost all of your armwrestling trips a tax write off. If you have any questions, please let me know, and just in case you think I am bluffing I have a masters in forensic and investigative accounting, I know whats legal.

Many sport supplement companies will take on athletes from various sports, The way the Economy is now, you may have a hard time with it. I had 2 training partners that were sponsored by MetRX, when times got tough they got no more sponsorship. Sometimes local companies will give you sponsorship if you wear one of their shirts or something for advertising, when you compete. Good Luck

Local Red Bull Distributors have sponsored pullers in the past......As James said, it's tough times right now. Give it a shot! I agree with Pete also, being a great armwrestler is helpful, but knocking on doors and asking far over-shadows that!

some companies will sponsor with "gear" or store credit, some with cash, some with favors ie. im sponsored by the company who designs and creates the sponsored shirts i wear. I seem to have the most luck with the local companies that do alot of business online. Fightgear outlet, spar customs, Man Up industries, carlsbad mineral water, triumph united. All local but get alot of business online

One thing that would be extremely helpful in getting sponsors is for you to write up a "resume" showing where you have traveled with the sport and your accomplishments. If you are friends with a promoter ask them to to give you a reference. Any time you are trying to obtain sponsorship you are trying to sell yourself. Take the printed resume in to them and leave it for them to review. If possible include a business card. Wouldn't hurt to maybe talk about your training. Refer them to armwrestling websites to reinforce that Armwrestling is a serious sport and so are the athletes. Most of all tell them what you will do for them... wear their shirt, refer customers, hand out their business information etc..,. Good luck.
Hope these tips help. Denise
If you would like some help reviewing your resume I would be glad to assist. Just e-mail me.
