Hello All: It has been intense - here is an update and a video. The Video is very, very graphic. Don't watch if you are squeamish.
Jason had major surgery on Monday, March 23rd to eradicate him of the infection that was the result of mesh inserted to support his frame after the removal of a cancerous tumor, half a lung and some ribs back in 1986 (www.jasonvale.com).
Yesterday’s surgery included removing a rectangular piece of skin and flesh from his back all the way to the chest wall (approximately 6 inches X 8 inches). They removed a lot of pus and parts of his back muscles as they peeled and tugged the plastic mesh which was attached to his lung and ribcage. They had to chisel away some of the ribs and left the wound open to heal from the inside out.
Jason looked a little frail in the recovery room and spiked to a fever of 103.8 this morning and I was nervous. BUT……
I just visited with him in the hospital. When I got there, they took him for a CT scan. I was shocked to see Jason so agile and strong, walking tall to the gurney outside his room without any assistance; finishing it off with a little jig shake and wink to me.
He is currently recovering at Winthrop-University Hospital in Mineola , NY . The surgeons predict more operation to remove muscle from parts of the stomach to fill the hole, and skin grafts from the leg to cover the gouge. Please pray for full recovery and no mishaps in the months to come.
VIDEO OF BANDAGES BEING CHANGED - WATCH AT YOUR OWN RISK. The beginning is very intense, but if you can stick it out, you get a true sense of relief.
Jason, Can't wait to see you back to full strength!
