I think the biggest hurdle armwrestling has period is sponsorship. It would be silly to ignore the venues that are awash in sponsorship, ie the Arnold, Show of Champions, etc. Fifty years of pulling in bars in what hasn't gotten us very far. We have an image problem. The public at large imagines armwrestling to be full of rough, ignorant mouth-breathers. What would give them such an idea? That's what's wrong with the sport. Sponsors want athletes. They demand professionalism. We have to go where the public will perceive armwrestlers as athletes. If tagging along gets the sport in front of sponsors then so be it. They aren't coming to look for us. +1

Phil, Obviously you haven't been to the Arnold. Time is a small factor as far as having left hand the Arnold. A sponsor for the prize money is the main issue. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. Denise How about having very limited left handed classes? Like how the NAL was, 0-185 and 186+. Maybe the additional two classes would draw more armwrestlers and more entries fees which would account for the prize money. Thoughts? Then that raises the question of whether or not you have to qualify in the left to compete in the left, or if you qualify in the right do you get enter the left and visa versa. Either way you would get more qualifiers, which would mean more entry fees, which should mean more prize money.

Seriously though...lefties at the Arnold's would be cool.
A fan of the Arnold or not, I agree with John. For armwrestling to become the sport that most of us want it to be, it may have to "tag along" for a little while longer. Eventually, the right people, with the right amount of $$$ and resources will take this great sport to the next level...where it should be. If it happened to the UFC, it can happen to armwrestling......I hope....

Denise I would sponsor 300 dollars for the class, I want my entry and my son entry for the class in the lefthanded class, just make one class, limit the class to 30 pullers at 100.00 a piece, I think it would be a great event. Denise runs a great event and is a super nice lady.
