Some people never cease to amaze me.
Steve Stanaway was involved in this sport LONG before the majority of you were even thought of. The man has come up through everything this sport had to offer. Armwrestling is here today due to the dedication of a small select few people and Steve Stanaway is one of those few.
Has he made mistakes? Sure. Has he said things he shouldn't have? Absolutely. Is he perfect? Not by a long shot.
Why do any of you want to criticize or mouth off about something that most of you don't even know 100% of what may or may not have happened? And as for him not talking about it --- you obviously don't know Steve. One thing about him - he will tell you exactly what he thinks. Right or wrong, whether you agree with him or not, he will tell you and won't pull any punches either. That's a far cry from what you get out of most of the people in this sport any more.
Regarding Reggie Ward..............As for the year - it was 2000. Location - Bakersfield, California. Yes Steve said something he shouldn't have. It was said in anger and it was wrong. And, yes, I WAS THERE so I know exactly what I'm talking about. Did I condone it then? Absolutely not. Do I condone it now? Still absolutely not.
Whether you like Steve or not has no bearing on the fact that the man is and was a pioneer for our sport. Without him, we wouldn't be anywhere remotely close to where we are today. Love him, like him, hate him - no never mind to me. But each and every one of you owe him a debt of gratitude for what he's done for this sport.
It would be nice for once to see those that are without guilt, without fault, without wrong to be the ones to speak out against someone. Last I checked though, I hadn't met anyone like that. And, I am certainly not one of them either. Those of you that are truly perfect and have never said or done anything wrong or anything you regret in your lifetime, please feel free to tell me how wrong I am.
