Just got home. Turnout was decent, not as high as it could have been but that seemed to be the case with most tournaments this year due to the economy and other circumstances beyond our control.
Competition wise though, there was a lot of intense action in the 176, 242, and super classes. Cordova came back to defeat Craig Goodwin in the finals after Craig won the MegaMatch here in Denver last month. Boyd won the right overall. 2 of the cash box winners were Lee F. (Durango, CO) and Jon C. (ABQ, NM) who at his first tournament beat Joesph Cordova in the 198 cash box class right and left (yes Cordova pulled the 98 cash box class). This kid is really strong inside and shocked a lot of people there. Had some table mechanics issues early in the tournament but seemed to catch on really quick to what we were showing him...really hope he keeps training.
In the 242's I had 3 wars with Chris Futhley left handed. I beat him the first match, he came back to beat me on the B side in the finals twice in the cash box class in the ref grip. I also had three wars with Ethan S. I took 2 out of those three.
In the supers, Jason P. was dominant and Nate McCallan put on a very impressive performance as Jason was the only guy in his class that he could blow right through outside. He has really come a long way in the past year and has been training very hard.
We had one guy travel from...yes...Mississipi just to pull the event and it was only his second tournaemnt (William Wade I think was the name). Steven King from El Paso, TX also looked like he is showing major improvement on the table.
$1000 in cash boxes was given away as well as some sweet door prizes thanks to Jeff and the sponsors. We had 2 tables and finished by about 7:30 PM. Referees did a nice job as well.
Anyone else feel free to comment or fill in results in some of the other classes. Hope everyone from the Denver team comes to the Springs next weekend to pull for a really great cause. I'm sure we'll see some of the Durango boys there too and some of the other guys that pulled yesterday.....now I'm going to catch some zzzzz's
