His hook looked pretty raw too. Bad Mofo!

He does have a good top roll, but his side pressure looks amazing. He also has a pressing style hook. Very well rounded.

bad mofo indeed. very exciting to watch as well. scary thing is he looks like he sits and catches alot of these pullers just to play with them and get a workout. side pressure tremendous in my opinion as well to be able to stay out of the hook as much as he does. motivating!

His side pressure is crazy. He looks very versatile, too. He hooked as much as he toprolled in that video, but it's always the ridiculous sidepressure that got my attention.
What really impressed me was seeing Pascal take his hand away. (!)

He got second place at the worlds this year behind Liliev. Didn't he get THIRD place at Worlds behind Liliev and Rudakov?? Has maybe Rudakov been disqualified??... My brother Giovanni beat Spannagel 4-2 in a Supermatch a year ago, but my brother was heavier than Dieter in that match (about 10 kg heavier). Anyway now my brother is about 92 kg but probably stronger than last january... This is the video (which startes when the challenge already was 3-0 for my brother...) rutube.ru/tracks/2408481.html?v=47ca30e6672c20a5277768289499a068&autoStart=true&bmstart=0

hi Fabio,
Rudakov is not disqualified and he took 2. to Arsen.Dieter took 3. place and he was great! it is a great succes for your brother to beat Dieter in a supermatch.was it a fresh supermatch or a second round supermatch in Neil's event?

Hi Engin, from what my brother told me Spannagel had pulled only another Supermatch against Brian Johnson during the morning (you can see some videos of that in the highlight that Alper posted...) before facing my brother in the evening, while my brother had faced Lee Holland from England (3rd place at Yuckon Jack 1995 in middle weight class), Darius Muszczak from Poland and Brian Johnson and easily beat all of them 3 without problems in the afternoon (I must say that my brother was 97-98 kg on that day and very angry and determined after his loss against Neil a month before, which was my fault too...), and eventually pulled with Spannagel in the evening. p.s. I was immediately sure that Alper made a mistake with results when I read what he wrote...

yes Fabio, my point was that what happenned to you was not a "fault",but as you mentioned that it effected your brother's performance.
back to the subject,Dieter has been getting stronger and better.his performance at WAF was amazing! 2. or 3. place does not matter so much, since becoming a medalist in such a tough class is not but amazing.

I surely agree with you Engin, but also my brother is stronger now than last january, and he's even lighter now at 92 kg, he just won against great athletes as Dobrovic and Rundstrom in a convincing way, so it will be great to see another Supermatch Nimis vs Spannagel, and I think that my brother can win again.

winning the Europeans in Moscow is something like trying to get the deer from the Lion's mouth! Really TRUE Engin!!!!!! There will be no Italians at Europeans at usual, but surely an italian team will go to Nevada's Worlds, maybe my brother too, but he is not competetive at highest level, he is not fast and has bad endurance, so no chances to become Waf or Eaf medalist... Moreover my brother is completely natural, and only few phenomenal athletes as you Engin or Pascal are able to become medalist at Worlds and Europeans without using steroids, we know that even with tested events a lot of Russians and Ukrainians athletes are not natural.... Even Spannagel (who I think is natural) has been lucky to placed 3rd at hardest Worlds of armwrestling history, because I would bet my life that he is not able to beat Edmir as he did at Worlds to finish in 3rd place, and I'm 100% sure about this. Honestly I consider Spannagel a very great natural athlete, but I don't see him as a medalist at next Worlds, in Italy he had lucky draw and beat Edmir after EDmir had a killer match against Azamat Eldzharov from Russia... So no chances to see my brother as a medalist at highest level Engin, he has not the skills that are necessary to win a lot of matches one after another at that level. About Edmir, his situation is a bit confused, only Edmir himself knows what he's planning, and maybe even him does not know it, Edmir's main problem is to not have a professional approach to the sport, he doesn't take armwrestling seriously, and this is why he is not World Champion yet...

fabio, my fault about the wrong result! I remembered him as the 2nd place for some reason at Waf. Regardless like Engin says it is a great achievment of course! I would like to see a rematch btw your brother and Spannagel at same weight(most likely 198lbs) The way he armwrestles is what amazes me the most. He utilizes his long forarm and hand almost 100% (reminds me a top shape Cobra with similar effectiveness on toproll but what he does is different than Cobra) more side pressure definitely! Within few years if he stays injury free he may become the Waf-Eaf champ. in my opinion. But you and engin are more familiar with age and other characteristics of european sportsmen. I live in Us and am limited to internet observation. Please post videos of such and other great Europeans athletes if you have any more and you think they are worth mentioning here. take care and happy new year.
