I just had a long talk with Jeremy tonight. He has been given some tough news by a couple of doctors in the last 48 hours that looks like it might spell the end of his armwrestling career.
You may or may not know he no longer armwrestles right handed due to having part of his index finger amputated. It causes severe pain to use his right hand for much at all. That injury began as a sore finger which eventually developed a bruise at the tip. The bruise turned out to be necrosis from lack of blood supply and after a tremendous bout with pain and 'wait and see' part of the finger was taken.
A few days ago another finger developed a painful bruise.
After two days of seeing various specialists, today they ran a scope up his femural artery out out to his right arm. The news was worse than anyone expected. It's not a finger problem. It's not a hand problem. The surgeon confirmed he has a crushed artery on the ulnar side of his forearm about halfway between the elbow and wrist. Even with ultrasound no pulse can be detected below the crushed artery. Attempts to balloon it failed and attempts to put a stint in failed. This has some severe implications.
In the immediate future it's fairly safe to say he'll lose another finger. Long term, nobody yet knows what can be done to get acceptable blood flow to his hand.
Understandably he is in low spirits. He asked me to make a post to let everyone know that he will be gone for a while. In his words, if he can't participate in the sport he wants to break away totally. Reading the board will only make him sadder that he can't be a part of what's going on with all of you. He says he may post in a day or two just to give updated information.
He also made a huge point that he was IN NO PAIN whatsoever when he lost to Ethan Fritche at Toproll. Ethan was stronger and Ethan was the better puller that day. Ethan deserves the win with zero excuses from Plaster because he has none. This is totally unrelated.
He should learn more tomorrow from the tests and procedures done today. Again, I am relaying this as second hand information. I'm not a doctor and I'm going on what Jeremy told me was told to him.
