First of all, Chris and Jeremy ran a great event. There were about 8 guys in every class. 7 states were represented. 5 different groups of people traveled 5+ hrs to attend this event (this tournament had only been advertised for about 3 weeks before the actual date).
Thank you to Dwayne Hanel for filming for ArmTV. Corey Miller pulled 8 classes and very well, took a few tough losses at the end to Sonny, John Grant (MN) and Sean Brock (WI)
I'd like some feedback from those that were there: I like this "style" tournament and we don't see it very often. I am referring to the 100% cash payback of entries to 1st 2nd and 3rd instead of having trophies, and not having novice classes.
I don't think it should change the state or major events, but I'd like to see most of the local events held this way. They are much easier to promote because you do not need to find anywhere near as much sponsorship from the venue as would would with awards/T-shirts, etc. And as yesterday proved, people will come.
Many people would much rather have a chance to win $30-80 in a class than win a trophy. For some this factor even makes the decision for them as to whether or not they will go.
As far as the novice classes, these events are not usually big enough to warrant all those extra divisons. And usually a lot of "novice" matches will end up taking place by default anyway on the "B" side.
Thoughts and comments?

I like trophy's/plaques/medals if they are nice, but money is always good too, but I am glad to have some awards that I can show off to others. I'm not sure how Chris usually runs his tournaments, but I went to one he put on last year and he did money there, too. I think it works well.
I also agree that no novices classes can be good for some tournaments like this, that just don't have enough competitors to hold a novice class. If there were to be a novice class though, maybe have just small medals for the novices and put the rest of the entry money from the novice classes into the open/pro class. That would be sweet. But either way this tourney was a lot of fun.
