I think a magazine is a tough sell. In the days before the Internet, armwrestling magazines and newsletters were the primary means for informing people of results and upcoming tournaments. Now, the majority of pullers are online and have access to this information as soon as it is available. Although I don't know for sure, I suspect this is the main reason the AAA Armbender magazine is no longer published.
In order for me to consider paying for a magazine, I would need assurance that it would offer something that I can't obtain online, and I'm not sure what that would be.

An armwrestling magazine would not have a high enough circulation to stay in business. You would have to have it as part of an overall strength sports publication.

The problem with a magazine is cost versus production value.
A 20 - 30 page magazine is not a magazine. It's a news letter.
As James already said, there is not enough circulation to support it. You could do it as a labor of love, but breaking even just on materials will be very hard to do.
Work the problem from the other direction if you are serious. Determine how much money needs to be generated to make it sustainable- and then figure out how 20-30 pages sold to 400 people is going to cover that number.
Materials are not free. Content is not free. Distribution is not free. Your time is not free (not if you want to keep doing it for long).
A couple of guys I know very well went down this road about ten years ago.

Hey, I know those guys. I still think they could have done it with enough start-up capital.

Yes they could have. Unfortunately the necessary realistic capital was high six figures. But it was also ten years ago when people actually bought magazines.

i suggest Ebooks for aw magazine rather than printed ones. so cost of production and distribution will be lesser. and readily available.

Anthony, why don't you give it a try. I'll be your first customer. I like the idea of glossy color photos. You just never know till ya try. It would be interesting to see what your dream evolves into. Keep your day job for now,but grow this idea into something cool.Maybe a color printed publication in combination with a custom members only website that features ads for $ GO FOR IT! AL Attachments:

Anthony, every one of us has an ego, and we love to see our names and pictures in magazines (well, I guess it depends on the magazine! ) If you keep that in mind and make sure that you get as many of the athletes covered, either names, pictures, or articles, then you have a higher chance of interested buyers. Just do your homework on the amount of time and money that this would take. Even glossy paper on a color laser is expensive - probably at least 20-30 cents a side when you count in toner and paper. I tried a similar idea a lot of years ago - and ended up being the photographer, editor, journalist, printer, and distributor. It got old. But it does sound like you have a lot of people who might offer help in writing articles, graphics, etc. You might want to talk to the Beans and see what kind of realistic effort and cost went into the Armbender. That was a great publication - not sure if it's still around, but I used to wait by the mailbox like that kid in Christmas Story.
