Has anyone experienced this?
It's happened 3 times to me. When I was 16, a muscle in my left shoulder died PAINFUL!! when I was about 25, a muscle in the middle of my back (right shoulder blade area) died. This took years to rebuild around the dead muscle. Just last weekend, my right tricep started hurting real bad and I immediately thought of that. Just today, I realized that I can't use it anymore. Right tricep is now shot! Anyone have any suggestions???

Do you have a disease that causes that? I have never ever had that happen?

Before I started arm wrestling I rode dirt bikes and street bikes for about 6 1/2 years. During that time I had nerve damage occur, broken bones, cracked bones, torn rotator cuff, etc. After my last injury which was a rotator cuff on my left shoulder which was the second time it had been torn, I got really sick and went from 205 lbs. to about 168 lbs. in 3-4 weeks.
It got to the point where I couldn't raise my hands above my head. Or lift anything over about 5-10 lbs, in any position. This is the condition which I was in when I started arm wrestling. Bob Brown can vouch for that. Suffice it to say my muscles were weak and had atrophied. It has taken years to get them strong again, but my muscles never died. That's very unusual. This is the first I've heard of something like that happening.
What have the doctors said? Does it run in your family?

17 years ago, at age 16, the dr told me it "sounded" like muscle atrophy. Eric, i couldn't lift my arm for a while either. I took him at what he said but don't recall any real testing done for it. At that time I was working out pretty hard. At age 25ish, same thing happened after working out, just in a diff part of my body (right shoulder blade area). Last Thursday I worked out tris but not THAT intense to convince me that it was the cause this time. Johnny, a dr hasn't actually "diagnosed" me with that but just mentioned that's what it sounded like, and after "it" happened 2 more times, I assumed he was correct. With that said, I read on Muscular Atrophy (Wiki) the other day and it talked about weakness, loss of mass among a few other things that I can't recall, but I related that to dead muscle. It mentioned some symptoms of Muscular Atrophy being; congestive heart failure, AIDS (no chance), a few things I can't pronounce, and cancer. I've got a dr appointment tomorrow morning and am quite nervous. If you would, please say a small prayer . It's very frustrating and disappointing to work hard to build the little muscle I have and it dissipate within a week, then take years to compensate from muscle around it

He said that my 3 issues thru the years were not necessarily related. At 16, it was bicep tenonitis. At 25 and recently, I apparently tore fibers, which will still take a while for my surrounding muscle fibers to compensate for the loss muscle. He also said that the other dr was WAY wrong about the atrophy. So NO cancerous issues for me!! Antinflamitories, muscle relaxers and 2-3 weeks off of workin out. Amen to that!!

Amen to that brother!!!! Glad to hear it was nothing really serious. And hope that recovery comes well. Maybe now since you know the Atrophy was wrong your mind won't trick your body into thinking it can't grow normally.
