Johnny Walker's story - Part 1 PrologueThink you train hard for arm wrestling? Then try Johnny Walker’s technique of strapping 20-pound sandbags around his wrists and wearing them all day at work. And when you’ve finished work, go home and do your “real” arm wrestling training including preacher curls and table-top curls with heavy dumbbells, stretch-band pulls and one-arm pushups. Finally, to prepare for opponents who have quick top-rolls, toss a 50-pound dumbbell into the air and catch it on the way down…over and over again. (But don’t drop it on your toes.) Allow me to add a little sidebar to Johnny's story. Even today, many years after he retired from arm wrestling, Johnny is recognized on the street and gets challenges. He told me about a recent incident where a young man challenged him repeatedly. Finally, Johnny told the man that he accepted the challenge...but only if he could go home and put his official arm wrestling table in the back of his truck and bring it to where the young man worked. That ended the challenge right away. Retired world champion arm wrestlers are sort of like retired gunslingers, I guess? There's always some young dude ready to take them on...lol. Jimmyvan

Johnny used to say that he would wake up in the middle of the night and his arms would ache, and he knew it would be time to go down and workout Great puller great friend Despite the fact that he was known as the "Iceman" Johnny was and still is I'm sure a true gentleman

Allow me to tell about my teammate, mentor, and a person known to all in the arms sports as (Gentleman John) "The Iceman" Johnny Walker. In 1994 on a mid summer day in South Carlonia Chad Silvers was hosting his state AAA tournament, as luck of the draw would have it my first match was Ron Bath and second was Johnny Walker both fellow Georgians an teammates. Ron and I set up and on go we fired, and I shoulder rolled my opponent to the pad, only to hear three diasappointed words "foul" (quick start) Ron ended up winning the match. Then came by match with Johnny, same results an scenario! I was out of the tournament and begun to drown my sorrows and disappointents in to this buds for you! Johnny approached me afterwards and said "Shaky you got F***** " Let's settle the score, he called Chad over to the table and asked him to refree the best of three matches, I shouldered Johnny all three matches but in the process I unintentional damanaged the tendons in his arm. There were rumors that surfaced is why he retired, when I approached Johnny with these rumors he didn't denied nor confirm these as facts. This is my chance for an apology to Johnny, and reveal the true character of the man known as "Gentelman John" A true legend in (Arm Sports history) "Shaky"

I'd say you have a lot of (good) character to make that apology to Johnny, Adam. Johnny retired in 2000 at age 55 after beating Cobra Rhodes in his final contest. He told me he retired because he had "done it all" and wanted to relax. Jimmyvan

He use to hit his forearm and tendons after putting on lemon oil on them For those that know me well, it's no secret that Johnny is at the top of my list of favorite arm wrestlers all time

Mr. Orden- You're the reporter or author, I'm not doubting the truth of your story as told by Johnny about his retirement, my intent was express my sincere apology to a friend, the way my Lord and Savior tutored me to live my life. To all concerened, I had spoken to Johnny five minutes before posting my comment on the message board asking his premission in which he gave. I consider this case closed! Thank you, AG
