What do we think was Dave's prime? meaning what span of years do those commenting think were Dave's best?
Fisher has to be the man to weigh in on this question.
I pulled Dave in 87 88 89 somewhere around there at two seperate events, I was just getting started, I was strong at under 150 but I did not even know what Dave was doing was legal I was such a rookie.
I train at times with Dave at his place here in Virginia, hands down he is the most skilled, technical and smartest armwrester I have every gripped up with.

Engin, Chris - in fairness to Dennis - he was much older when he pulled Roman. Don't forget than Roman was only 143 lbs. and was pulling 2 or 3 weight classes. Just pointing that out, I'm enjoying reading this discussion... I'm not sure who would win personally.

I have locked up with both. In a hook there is no question in my mind that Roman would win but that leaves the question could Roman get Dave in a hook.
Again styles make wars.
Most people don't really understand the details in that statement. Not just styles but also arm length, hand length and thickness make big difference. Its not just TR vs Hook. Its what type of TR or what type of Hook. From a technical standpoint, Dave far out does Roman. From a pure strength standpoint, Roman far out does Dave.
If I had to put money on it, it would depend on.......1. have they ever pulled before and Best of What?
First time ever meeting Roman wins but once Dave had a chance to get to know Roman and pull him a few times, I believe Dave would of figured out a way to beat him. But dont forget Roman is also a pretty smart fellow. It would of been wars after they got to know each other.

Now again because styles make wars. If this was about Dave versus Janis Amolins. I would pick Janis every match.

Guy - I believe that Dave was 7-3 with Allen and though had a loss to Cobra, was never pinned by him. If my numbers are not right on, I truly believe them to be close... is that the match that Cobra won but not by pinning? if so then i must say that the pin was coming in a second if Dave did not foul. i also saw the second and third matches of these athletes in same event but i will not comment about them.

first time i saw Janis was in 1999 Europeans where he was a junior puller.
i and Janis first time met eachother (with both hands) in 2003 Europeans,he was strong but not experienced yet.that supermatch with Janis was in december 2007.early in same year he beat me at the Europeans (july 2007) with right and i beat him lefty there.i think we have met total of 11 times (7 right and 4 left).
now he is stronger than last time we have met while i am weaker = less healthy, but his style does not disturb me so much as he is more technical than Zoloev but not as strong as Zoloev.he may beat me but i also have chance to beat him even though i am max at 70% right now.
since december 2007 i have not met him officially with right arm except training pulls that we had in march 2009 when he visited my club.
Zoloev (at the age of 18) took 2. place to Rustam Babayev in 2002 WAF in Egypt;

Bob, Not sure but do not think that Dave ever pulled him. If so, what were the results and why would you take him every time? Bill

Bob, Not sure but do not think that Dave ever pulled him. If so, what were the results and why would you take him every time? Bill Because the strength levels in AW have come up greatly. Daves main power was his ability to generate great back pressure against someones hand, fingers and wrist. Now the strength of hands have come up so greatly that he could not get enough pressure on current world class TR but I do think he could do it against some of Today's top hookers.

Bob, I disagree completely. Again the talk was "in the prime". I also feel Dave's hook has been drastically underrated. Even now...it is still impressive. Bill

so In fact, Engin you are the last one who actually pinned Zoloev in an tourny in his weight category ?! i won against (pinned him twice) Zoloev twice on that day without losing a match.Janis also beat Zoloev in 2009 WAF but by coming from B side (Zoloev beat him quick on first round) by proving that in such a tough event endurance can be as important as strength. Janis is a very tecnical, strong and smart puller.this year he gave some trouble to Zoloev when Zoloev tried to beat him with side pressure but in a re-start Zoloev won quickly with a hook move.but i must mention that Zoloev's draw was much tougher than Janis's.Zoloev's draw was as follows; 1. round Fatih Mehmet Boz took 4. place 2. round Engin Terzi 3. round Taimuras Tsakhilov took 3.place 4. round Zhanali Khassanov took 5.place semi final Janis Amolins took 2.place final Janis Amolins
