Over the past year I've been aggressively researching the history of organized armwrestling. I've conducted interviews with dozens of the top promoters, pullers, and organizers from the past 50 years. I've done extensive research online -- primarily through Google News Archives, and have consulted most of the publications that have covered the sport. The result is enough information to write hundreds of pages on the sport's history. I wanted to wait to until I got around to writing everything before I posted my history project, but have come to realize this will take a long time to complete. So I've decided to post my findings in several parts. Information on the beginnings of the sport, up to the late '60s, can be found here: www.ontarioarmwrestling.com/ArmwrestlingHistory.htmlSome of you may be familiar with some of the information, but I think few know much about the IFAW. I want to thank Dave Devoto, Dick Tyler, and Steve Stanaway for granting me telephone interviews to complete this part. If anyone notices any errors, please let me know. I've done my best to get everything right, but very little was documented back then. Next up will be the early '70s, when the sport really took off. Look for this to be posted later this summer. Enjoy!

Eric,
This is truly a great project and I am impressed. I would love to even see it published in hard copy form someday and would pre-order a book now if I could.
I have heard of Dave Devoto's work and many of the beginnings in the late 60s and through the 70s from various sources...
but never such a detailed explanation of the early 60s. Thank you for taking the time to do these personal interviews as I feel this is probably the first time anything like this written well in this form on the sport's early days.

Great Stuff.
I would definitely talk with Gene Camp from New York. And if you can find Steve Simmons from the WPAA it would be interesting.

Thanks for the offer. I was actually fortunate to get a three hour phone interview with Steve several months ago, and the WPAA will figure prominently in one of the upcoming pieces.
