Joey Baca and I have been debating this for days, I know it's off topic but please give your opinions.

Grizzly easy.... Now if the ref was to give an unfair advantage, or the gorilla was caught mid banana , or the bear was honey drunk or tired from playing with tigger.....what the Fu(k !?
This is one for the books, but the bear wins just because I like you Joe.

Lets see. Adult Grizzly Bear: weigh on average 180–360 kilograms (400–790 lb). Adult Gorilla: weight 140–200 kg (310–440 lb). So far the Gorilla is at great disadvantage. "But, Gorillas have great grip strength and upper body strength from swinging on trees and the like", you say.. I say you do a Google Image search for "bear Claw" and re-think your possition. Yep, discussion's over, the bear would destroy him!

Whats crazy is that i was just talking about this in the last 3 days I can't remember who it was i was talking about it with though. Very odd it got posted around the same time. I think a bear would win though, the Gorilla would be tough don't get me wrong but the bear is bigger, stronger, and has more natural weapons.

Gorillas are incredibly strong, but he's not going to rip a bear's arms off before he gets mauled to death. The bear would break the gorilla's back and chew his face off. I really don't see the gorilla doing much damage before he got turned into a chew toy.

People also don't realize how explosive bears can be. Grizzly owns the Gorilla (and the gorilla can use both hands.)
From a standing start, a grizzly can get up to 25 MPH in 6 seconds and can cover over 109 yards in 6 seconds! Maybe doesn't apply to armwrestling, but bears aren't slow and lazy like some think.

Gorilla !! Much faster, much more incontrolable and so much more technic in the Fight. and the MAIN reason : A Gorilla simply is way more intelligent. He would use the environment

Actually Felix a grizzly bear is much faster than a gorilla. They have been known to decapitate full grown horses or elk at a full gallop running beside the animal. as far as being smart and deceitful, taking nothing away from the gorilla but I live with bears in our town (I'm not joking) and they are very cunning. Like a killer whale and great white no contest bear over gorilla

The adult male Silver back Gorilla is Pd for Pd the strongest Mammal on Earth by far. I read an article that stated if you could teach it to "bench press" it could easily push 2500lbs! Based on the fact that the Great apes muscle insertion points are FAR superior to humans, tendon and ligament strength is upwards of 25 times that of a human. Hence the reason a 220 lb orangutan can hang in pull up position for over an hour. Given all of that, and superior intellect it would murder a Bear. ;D

Whoa, whoa, whoa..... are we talking a fight or an armwrestling match? On a table, Gorilla - the bear wouldn't be able to hold on to the peg and would probably foul out. But IF - and I'm saying a big IF Bear could hold on to the peg, the Gorilla would still win. His superior lat strength and FINGERS would pull the Bear's paw into a hook and he'd drag him acrosss the table, pinning him with an easy shoulder roll.
But if you mean fight? Da Bear!!!!

The Kodiak Bear, and Polar Bear outweight the Silverback by double and maybe sometimes triple. Considering the distance between Africa(gorilla), and Alaska/Canada(Bear), I'm thinking this matchup never going ot happen.

Gorillas eat too many bananas and his hand will be slippery. They will go to the strap where the Bear's Cleve Dean-like hand will overwhelm the gorilla. The gorilla has good hand control but he can't get a good grip on the bear. I don't think he can take the bear's wrist, either. And no matter how much the gorilla chalks his hand, it won't give him any grip on the bear's furry hand.
And good luck getting the bear to show his thumb knuckle. Cheating bear... I hate that guy.

Thanks Rob V Jr. For everyone who's voted for the Gorilla, I just want to know how you figure the Gorilla would possibly be able to kill the bear? The Gorilla has no offensive weapons that are not matched or beaten by the bear. It is not in the Gorilla's nature to kill another animal. They are in no way predators. Bear kills gorilla in a fight all day long. It's not even a contest. The gorilla would probably win the armwrestling match though, LOL.
