Although it’s still almost six months away, I’m very excited about the A1 Russian Open tournament taking place at the end of July. For those who don’t know the format of this event, the details can be found here: www.armsport-rus.ru/NewVer/A1_index.asp?l=en&m=4I’m wondering who will be pulling in the regular weight class tournament, as participation in the regular tournament is not required in order to participate in the absolute weight category. Are there any pullers who will have the confidence to pull the regular tournament as well as the absolute category? I would see that as being risky, given the calibre of pullers expected to attend. The biggest thing I’m wondering about is how will the organizing committee select the 12 top-rated armwrestlers? How will the committee decide which pullers go in which sub-groups? Will they be going off the world rankings? I hope that the sub-groups will be well mixed, and we won’t see any entirely consisting of American or European pullers, which could encourage possible lay-downs. The structure of the absolute weight category competition is very intriguing, and endurance will obviously come into play. It’s great to see that the same prizes are offered for both arms. Assuming all of the top pullers of the world show up, who do you think has the best chance of winning the right arm division? What about the left?
