At the MDA telethons in California they had a booth called "beat the champ" I never did ask Steve if he was a part of this, but I stood in one of those booths with one other puller and we took turns pulling all comers for over 8 hours, including the Sandiego Chargers football team. I don't remember being that sore, but it was one of the worst sunburns I ever had Wow that was a long time ago! It was a dollar a shot to pull and they had these tiny little trophies that said I beat the champ when someone got a win on us, which after a while was fairly often.

Steve Simons came to Alaska in 1985 and i was the State champion and him and i went on some local tv talk shows to promote WPAA...and he stayed a week with us. We traveled to Fairbanks and put on an event. He was a ONE person promoter and organizer..He did a great job!

Maybe 1977 or 78. It was a long time ago and I was really having a problem with substance abuse, so I am not sure of the year. I don't know if it even had anything to do with WPAA or was just an idea they got from the association with them. We could definitely use another Steve or Marvin who had a passion for the sport and the connections we all need to be promoted!
