I just recently re watched Devon and MT's super match on YouTube and while reading the "hate" speech about Todd's "style" a thought occurred to me. I'd like to share it and just see if anyone else can see the merit of it.
Simply it's like this; I know MT personally and have trained with him. I'm sure a lot of you have seen some of his YouTube videos of workouts and know how much he puts into his training. I'm not saying he can just relax and let others pull during the match and wear out or any other variation on that, personally. I'm just addressing it as its s common topic around his matches.
So for the sake of the discussion lets say something of the sort is true. And so after years and years of training, sweating, and bleeding to be the best he can be, something has happened. Something has fussed, locked, or whatever adjective you'd like to use. And now his arm doesn't have full ROM. I'm not going to get into the difficulties that in itself present or the pain it causes because this isn't a feel sorry for MT thread. But, I do know for a fact he would rather have his ROM then not. And that it wasn't engineered or designed so he could have an advantage of any kind, but that he earned whatever it is through the years of training to be the best.
So what would you do? Would you give up Armwrestling? Lose matches you know you can win? Would you not use what you spent years earning? Because like it or not that's what's happening. And before any of you say that you wouldn't use it here's a few thoughts. When your about to lose a match have you ever intentionally slipped? Tried to push an opponent off the pad? Elbow fouled to get a restart? See, the majority of us all do whatever it takes to win and if after 20 years of training and pulling something similar happens to you I'm betting you won't lay down a match you know you could win by using whatever is available. He didn't ask for it and it's nothing to be desired for that matter. Who would trade a WAF title or an Armwars championship for the inability to move your arm correctly?
I just thought that maybe if some people could see it this way they might not be so quick to cast their judgments. And before I'm done, I don't know (crazy)George but I'd imagine a lot of the same is true for him and his situation.
