Priorities first, Brandon. At least they didn't Article 15 you for destruction of gov't property. When I was in the Navy my Senior Chief had to give up full contact martial arts for the same reason. For years they had let him compete with a signed waiver saying that he acknowledged if he ever got hurt the gov't did not have to cover his medical, etc. Then they finally just gave him the ultimatum you got. It sucks, but it's career versus hobby and the military has put a ton of time and training dollars into you. It is what it is. Armwrestling doesn't pay the bills. It's an easy choice when you get down to it. You'll always be armwrestling family. hint: sounds like a good time to become a ref.

I know first hand that the Military is not going to be supportive of an extreme sport. Just like John said, they have waaay too much invested in you as a usable asset for this country. I also know first hand that you are a solid dude on and off the table. Respect goes out to you B. Dye, take care of yourself first over anything and everything else will fall into place. See you down the line my man.

If you don't mind a joke to bring some humor to the situation.... these next few years (or even decades!?) might be the right time to secretly train to develop a "Bone-Lock"!!. Then when you come back to the sport, in your 40's, 50's or even 60's, you can dominate the younger world champs with ease! On a more serious note: big Brandon Dye fan from years of watching video. But a totally understandable choice between career and hobby. So best of luck! You should be proud to know you'll be missed and talked about by many!

I am sure I have seen many military sponsored tournments on this board and other places. I even think there is a military nationals.. So uncle Sam sponcers tournemnts, but as soon as someone gets injured, thay give him an order to not compete anymore... So, will the military continue to put on tournments? And if they do, it will be open to all military right? Oh except those that have been injured in previous tournments.. something is not adding up here.

Based on my own personal experience with how the military operates, it sounds just about right. No kneejerk is ever too quick. Especially when a report has to be filed. Some 'corrective action' is always required and "member has been forbidden to participate in any more (activity)..." always looks good. I always found it hilarious that every day you do incredibly dangerous things, but it was against regs to play tackle football on base. (true story) When I was stationed in Mayport in the 90's, some d.ouchebag pulled a knife on someone during an argument- or something really dumb. Who really knows, since it's always some incident you never heard of firsthand and nobody has ever met the guys involved. Anyhoo.... New policy for every command (and all ships) in Mayport: No more personal knives or some silliness I can no longer recall in detail. Really? You use a knife for damn near everything you do on a ship. Then when Obvious Man rears his head, the rule becomes basically "the rule is still in effect but won't be enforced. But if you hurt yourself or others with a knife longer than 2-1/2" then the rule is still in effect and you'll be in violation of the rule." Yes, it sounds exactly like the military that I remember.

you dont have the same rights as a civilian. You can be told not to do anything, I know I was. Air Force property includes its people.

It sucks. They have football and other sports. And with any sport there is risk of injury

Brandon, I admire you for keeping your priorities straight, but never again? I hope that's not the case. Even so, you've already made a great mark on the sport that will never be taken away! My prediction is you'll accel at another sport after you heal. I wish you the best.
