Thats an excellent idea Josh. We should keep our eyes peeled for one. I can develop a software just for Armwrestling brackets to go with it.

The Harley Pull Weekend. All I gotta say. If you have been you know why, if you havent, you need to go to the next one if Mike Bowling does it again.
Something about stepping out the window of your room onto the floor of a ball room that is all armwrestling all the time!!

Classy sports bars are always nice - the Black Bear Saloon tournaments stick out in mind. Great venue - friendly staff - great food - great competition - great show - perfect place for after pulling - and Pete/James/Tim/Christian whether as hosts, announcing, or just competing - great group putting on the tournament.
I would usually prefer indoor tournaments - but I have to say the UAL Venice Beach tournament was definitely an incredible experience. That was so much fun - and UAL production - can't get much better than that. Tons of people watching in and out all day - keeping the little amphitheater deal full all day - great weather - very hard to get that kind of experience outside as its such a unique place, but I'm sure other places could attain a similar feel.
I guess it all depends on what the main goal is - if its just a great tournament great venue - and trying to cater to THOSE WHO ARE THERE IN ATTENDANCE, then most things MIGHT be different than if you are trying to cater to those through either internet feed, DVD, TV, production audience.
UAL Lake Tahoe I think was a great mix of catering to both groups. The build-up to supermatches was awesome - bio's of the pullers - meet in the middle for a staredown - then on the stage to go at it - was just alot of fun to see and I'm sure was fun for the pullers. Neil pickup announcing - the lights and big screens were sick, and would make an awesome DVD.
Internet feed is great but so hard sometimes to get quality enough to enjoy it - I think producing a DVD that can be released SHORTLY after the event would be great, with live commentary or post commentary added AFTER like so many shows do these days for competitions, poker tournaments, etc., adds a level of professionalism and INSIGHT that you can't always get live. And also the DVD will build interest for those who were not able to attend, and if your event becomes an annual, semi-annual, frequent event - it will draw people to the event if the DVD/production is high quality.
Neil Pickup announcing or somebody with a great voice, James Retarides color commentating throughout the event, John Brzenk or another legend in the sport and "insert person here" doing post commentary on the DVD giving insight into the supermatches, finals, etc.
Just a few thoughts. Best of luck with your events in the future.

Of course these days the DVD is just about outdated and can be replaced with a well done video/video series like pullerville, but done more as a Production and/or "SHOW" - just once again depends on the aim of the promoter, and the $$ willing to invest in a quality event.
