So I am a new puller but recently won a little money in the Open at a small tournament in Houston and I'm wondering what class I should pull at Nationals. My record in tournaments is as follows
Houston Armwrestling Association Tournament #1 1st right and left Novice and Open
Texas State 1st right hand Amateur
Houston Armwrestling Association Tournamemt #2 1st Right hand open (won $100) 1st Left Novice
I am not considering pulling the left handed open but I don't know what to do right handed. The puller I beat to win the last tournament would never pull in an amateur tournament so that has me thinking I could at least hold my own at Nationals but at the same time he and I are completely different pullers in terms of style. I have no dillusions about doing really well at nationals but I don't really want to go 2 and out either lol.
What should I do?

By usaa rule you can pull amateur as long as you are not a recognized pro, test yourself in the open and pull amateur for the practice, it you win the amateur you will know the answer to this question for next time

Michael, I think you should pull both because I don't really think anyone will slow you down in the amateur class. This might give you some motivation for the open class. BTW this guy you beat at the last Houston event, I bet he was one handsome dude and strong as heck, right ?? I'm glad I didn't have to pull him....LOL You felt very strong keep up the good work, see YOU soon hahaha

Lol thanks James. Yeah that guy definitely was everything you said and more! Hate to pull him when he is actively training. Good thing we are not in the same weight class! Thanks for the input everyone. Guess I am going to pull both!

i usually pull novice with my week arm, left and open with my strong arm, right. that way im not dogged to bad by a lefty pro. been pulling since 86. no one has told me i coulnt do that in no league. sometimes ill go left in masters or if it is a bad turn out. that way atleast they will get thier trophy money back or it will help them get closer

If you have then Amateur is your class for the Left. LH

My goal is to win the Amateur right handed(not saying I will but it's my goal) and give it what I can left handed. I still might pull right in the open but we'll see

never heard open was amateur in my life . That's because it is not. Open is just that open to anyone that can make the weight. Pro is also open to anyone that can make the weight but the class gives out money. Amateur is for anyone not a "recognized" Pro. Novice is for anyone that has not taken a first place with at least 4 in the class.

Michael just don't spend to much time in amateur. Generally speaking the amateur classes get novice level pullers. If you are doing as well as you say maybe pull amateur occasionally and enter opens to get the experience. Good luck man.

This will be the last tournament that I enter the amateur class
