Well TK to bad you wont make it. With a well established league as the IAF and it breaking into the south here in Florida i know we have alot of tourneys. Just think how great we have it here to have so many choices for pullers. I like to mention that having many classes such as masters and other special awards gives options to pullers. plus love to see who becomes the first Gulf coast champion and getting that belt. Did i say belt?? Yes offering both left and right over all champ a awesome title belt and the runner up will get a gold plated ring. All finishers will get cool trophies. So maybe next time you will have a chance at a title belt.. good luck!

There are so many good pullers in Florida now that another tourney wont hurt anyone. It is about 5 hrs drive from Jacksonville to Port Charlotte. A couple of years ago there were only a couple events a year and e1 was looking for more. Good Luck Anthony and Willie.

Something to consider, there are now 5 promoters in the state of Florida, all promoting to the same group of people, most of those people will do a max of one event every 8 weeks, three events inside the state for 3 months is going have most people choosing one, the road warriors choosing 2 and most likely very few hitting all three, what this does is water down your classes to the point of exaughstion and people will be less likely to return next time to pull 2 to 4 people in a class
It you want to promote then personally I think you should target a group of people that will not effect the turnout of other events, specifically novice since potential novice outnumber armwrestlers by millions, you can do this and still offer one or two open classes for those who do happen to like your date, location or want to support a novice they are training.
A buddy of mine sent me this list of classes that is perfect for this type of building event that will promote growth and not be just another Florida tournament, my friend by the way is in TN but I believe it would apply here as well
For a novice tourn in waverly..... Novice.....0-180, 181-230, 231+ Open........0-200, 200+ Kids..........0-75, 75-125, 125-175, 175-225, 225+ Womens...0-143, 144 and up
Look at who you have locally that you have talked to about the sport and cater to them with your classes and prizes
Think about how their first experience of the sport is going to be, is it going to be a day long event with 30 classes having 2 or 3 guys each or a short event with packed classes that has them wanting more?

Anthony & Willie are targeting novice pullers, hoping to get more people involved. They can draw from the Southern Florida pullers and that wont affect the tournaments in the Pan Handle or JAX. As for the classes they are IAF State Directors and must use IAF weights which are the same ones used by most promoters and associations in the USA. We are trying to level the playing field here so pullers dont have to go up and down with their weight. Pull 176 in Jax and pull 176 in Sarasota and likewise with most of the classes offered.

Sorry but I don't see novice classes offered, some confuse amateur/novice and there is a difference, 70 % of pullers fall into most peoples amateur classes I'm with you on supporting the usual weight classes for reasons such as rankings and keeping a standard, but novice pullers are not going to be as concerned with rankings and the most important thing is making sure they are really novice and keeping the classes competitive. I guess it's in the trial and error stage and I'm pretty sure after the first trial you will see the error, on the bright side there will be prizes to hand out at a later date because many of them will be carried back to the house If I started hosting events in California geared toward open class pullers I garauntee there would be some back lash and it would not be a positive thing as Cali is full of events for those people, we are just not to the point as a sport where a state can do one open class event per month, but good luck......Willie Reagan is awesome person to have in your corner as he has been there done that, I just think this is going to the well once too often. jmo

The waverly novice tourn is still in the works, but alot of my local guys fall into the 210-225 range but would get killed by some of our novice heavies. Thats why the 230 cutoff. Also may do kids light, med, heavy. 80% payback for the 2 open classes and 80% payback for the novice classes so i can pay the refs. Not lookin to make any money. My goal is to attract new pullers. Venue is footing the bill for the medals so im not out nothin but my time. Once again, this will be my first tourn to host, but dave has left a pretty good example to follow.....

Well I guess only time will tell and they are running a ton of classes for kids which hopefully will help grow our sport. In the Northeast most pullers would compete every month at an event. In the time it would take to drive from Jax to Port Charlotte I can drive to an event in either MA, VT, NH, ME, RI, CT, NJ, PA and NY. And there are events being run in these areas monthly sometimes 2 a month. Looking at it from Dave point of view why would any promoter run events in Florida when AAA has been there already for years unless they run them under AAA. Different events offer the pullers a wider choice as to do I drive 5 hrs this weekend or drive an hour next weekend. As for Anthony & Willie I am sure they know what they are doing.
