What should a director do if the class size isn't very large? Here are my thoughts:
Only one in class, they get the trophy and move up to next class or get a refund.
Only two in class, ask the two pullers if they would like to pull the class or move up but leave it up to the pullers
only 3 in class, run the class as is without combining.
What are your thoughts?

I ask the puller what they'd like to do, because depend on who it is? they may not want to give up weight..... if you have 2 in a class? best of 3 is always good? you got 3? you covered the awards. I say getting trophies or placings by default is GAY !!! Combine classes. People not wanting to " pull up"... They don't belong in the sport if 20 lbs shakes them off of competing

This is what I do
If there is less than 4 in a class I let them pull the class and pull one class up for free, I agree with RVJ getting a medal by default is not fun but I still let them pull with the option of going up as well. You promoted the class, its not really their fault if nobody showed up to give them a run
The last one I had a 154 left and one right I let them both pull up respectively and they pulled each other as well for the 54 class, I wanted them to get their moneys worth

I agree with what y'all are saying....and I like your idea David of if there is less than 4, inviting them to pull up for free. I just thought it was odd that a team mate of mine was told 3 wasn't enough to run a class and that they were going to nix the 220lbs class and and make it a +199lbs class instead. (which went from 7 to 10 pullers) I feel like if you advertise the class and have more than one enter, it should be up to the pullers, and you should absolutely run the class if 3 sign up.

I till think it's silly people want to pull in a class that small... Then again I have seen many trophy collectors over the years.
Offering a "class"... Is like assembling a team, there should be an unsaid minimum number to make a "class"... 2-3 definitely doesn't fit the bill. I don't get how guys prep for months, travel and arrange a day to get to an event then want to pull one match and go home... As long as they have the almighty trophy to tote home and tell all their friends about how they won their state championship... When they won by default !!!
No joke I have seen this a bunch of times, state champs, nat champs and even people cashing in in bigger money events ( mainly women )... Just because they signed up...they were in the finals upon paying entry fee... Yippee!!!
I don't know... Seems super lame... Then again these are the same people will whine about 10 lbs like 10lbs bought them a ticket to another planet competing against cyborgs and they fear for their safety... Don't even get me starting to spew this schpeel... I can go on and on
It's a simple solution... Put the little * next to classes offered. At the bottom of the poster... * a minimum of _ competitors to run this class or classes will be combined with next class up. See... Simple, now you offer it and if it isn't filled you have an advertised solution
