FANTASTIC article.
I am so glad you included the letter from Mac Batchelor. I even chuckled a few times because it reminded me so much of the same threads you see on this message board all these years later.
What really got my attention was that Mac Batchelor realized immediatly the difference elbow placement made. In his two diagrams, you see the different effect (to lesser degree than illustrated) that straight-across pads bring to the match versus staggered pads. It honestly changes the dynamics of the match, especially with the addition of having your arm angle staggered while simultaneously trying to square your shoulders to the table.
