With all these exciting things going on in our sport right now everyone is a critic. Im wondering what are some ideas from other people if they had their way? What needs to happen for AW to reach the point we all hope for?

IMO I think we are making great strides with the tv shows and all the media coverage. I believe the more we become unified the bigger strides we will make. I also believe that their needs to more separation between amateurs and professionals. New pullers/fans need to have professionals they look up to, they need those professionals to be edified. Similar to Michael Jordan, he inspired COUNTLESS people to start playing basketball, he was untouchable, to have these 'Heroes' is necessary i believe. I should not be able to walk in off the street and pull John Brzenk, i should have to earn my way there. IMO.

We (TAA) help arm wrestling grow focusing our whole mission to welcome the new guy. Low expense novice tournaments and focusing on novice during bigger productions as well.
Question should be assuming that the reality tv show is a hit, is what are we going to do with the opportunity created to grow locally. UAL will do the same thing once their TV show is a hit on CMT.

Thats a good point, if we arent ready to capitalize on this wave of new pullers hopefully about to occur then whats the point? It will all be for nothing if we cant 'Process' the new guys efficiently to help them grow and stay driven.

ho to help armwrestling grow: 1) find an investor willing to dump millions into armwrestling by promoting high level events and dumping big bucks into the sport. 2) do everything you can to bash, discredit and otherwise derail all efforts of this investor because he expects a return on his investment and insist that said investor should just do it for charity while suggesting that the "old way" of doing things is the best since it has done so much to grow armwrestling over the last 30+ years.................................. oh wait this is already happening!! lol

^^^that's funny!
Pulling John is a great bridge into our sport, everyone who see's it who knows nothing about arm wrestling loves it. If there was a big push behind that movie people would flock to the sport.

START A UNIVERSITY LEAGUE!
University/Technikon/College kids are ideal: We need young athletes, the earlier the better, there are issues involving school kids, University is just right. They can wipe their schedule whenever they feel like it and are always trying new things there, and they will hang around for an average of 3 years ^^
Anyone that's been around knows that even unpopular sports pull off successful university leagues with minimal money and there is great sportsmanship and camaraderie all round among students and rival colleges.
You don't need to be affiliated with the university or have any contacts to start a league there. All we need is someone to go around and demonstrate, get the admin at the sports bureau involved and at least a handful of institutions on the circuit. Bam.
Young athletes need to understand that there is a place for them in armwrestling, even if they feel they dont belong anywhere. I was involved in the chess league at university, I wouldn't think it would be difficult to coordinate. The university serves as the club grounds, and non-students can join the team and register for the league to represent the University. If kids get enthusiastic, I know there are rich moms and dads that would be willing to sponsor the league.
Make a multimedia package that best shows off the sport and educates novices, get Devon Larratt to ask Sevan to release the rest of the Crossfit seminar, stuff like that, and LET PEOPLE KNOW. Plain awareness will gather sportsmen and women.

...errr, when I say institution, I mean the institute. If you don't have such a league already. Derek, I think it's cool how, in this sport, the elites interact with complete novices. I don't think there needs to be any more focus on segregation of classes. Who's gonna set up such a match anyway. I listened to the gripes of Bagent on the terminology, what does it mean to be a true professional puller, but this is absolutely not a central issue in expanding the sport, in my measly opinion.
Problem is, in countries where the sport isn't recognized as such, these professional amateurs are seldom willing to accept any responsibility or take any initiate, though most do welcome anyone with open arms into their fold which is a brilliant selling point for our sport. It isn't difficult to generate fresh ideas with so much of nothing being done at the moment. I have an idea up my sleeve, but it's a secret and I'm not yet strong enough to pull it off in my country. Maybe in 2 years. See you guys then ;D

grow the sport:
1. figure out what we are. nobodys done this in 50 years. either promote the Bad Boy bar image and everybody wear jeans and hats and boots..... or act like a sport and everyone dress and behave like an athlete.
2. much bigger separation between Ams and Pro. you need to earn a Pro Card.
3. shorten events to 3 hours max.
