If Cash was given out which Weight classes would the average person prefer, or think is most fair?
Please only 6 classes.......
I would think....
0-132, 133-154, 155-176, 177-198, 199-220, 221+

For 6 classes I would do 143 154 176 198 242 243+
5 classes is more standard with a 154 176 198 242 243+
4 classes 154 176 198 199+
3 classes 165 198 199+
This is what has worked for us.
Some would say why 242 instead of 220. When we first wanted to go from 199+ to another division above 198 we checked the weight of the competitors above 198 and almost half were in the 242 and the other half was above. So that is why we do so many 242 classes instead of 220 ;D

143 154 176 198 242 243+ is the best 6 class way to do this I think as well.
or
154-176-198-220-242-heavy
I prefer the first...but thats because I can easily make 143 still for the right amount of money ! lol

I like it when you add LADIES' classes to the mix!.... somehow they got excluded!!!!! (in all fairness to the real lightweight gals) 0-132 132-154 154-over I know that most promoters would think that they cannot fill 3 ladies divisions... I think you would have more gals if you did have the -132 division... basically the girls in that class are dealing with a 20 lb. spread. That is more fair to them than the 35 lb. spread when given the 143 class... Of course, if it only means having two divisions, 0-132 and above, then I would be against it simply because the 133 and above gives a 100+ lb. spread for those of us over 132... the average women these days is 140-147 lbs... according to what I've read... (of course, that is average age being 30's-40's...) In this case then, the 0-143 lbs works okay...sometimes... my 2 cents for the day........ Oh and the guys... I think that the 143, 154, 176, 198, 242, 243+ works the best.... although it seems there should be something in between the 176 and 198.... lots of guys in that spread...

Elaine makes a great point about the Ladies classes. I have talked with a few lighter female pullers and all have mentioned this before.143-under is FAR to much weight for some girls to give up. Tonya Woods..Valerie Beach..Karen Cooley..Judy Dodd.. a few more..but these girls would be giving away time and money to go pull a 143. Granted they get to pull sure.. But I'll be honest..I aint paying 500 for the trip and 60 in entry fees to pull a 165 class weighing 143.. or a 176 class if I am at 154. 121 or even 132 as Elaine stated. That would be perfect and I bet ya wouldnt even have to give out that much more money... Hell I would have no problem with the prize money on all the men being cut 20 bucks or so to fit another fair class in for women. its the least we can do seeing that we have stolen the lime light from the ladies for many many years in this sport and NO I aint sucking up! Ryan,
Trust me.......You really don't want to do that. It's not worth it.

Thank you, Jeremy... your suggestion of "shaving off" a couple of bucks from the guys' would probably make some cringe... but it's a bright idea- really! I honestly think there would be MORE ladies out pulling if there WERE 3 divisions. I believe it may have been that way in the past, but the ladies weren't coming out for it. However, times have changed and the ladies are traveling, for whatever reason. Maybe more money in their pockets, or maybe just more active, traveling ladies.... I think it's the latter. Me? I've always traveled and have always been at the TOP of the weight class or at the very BOTTOM of the weight class... and being at the bottom, giving up 100+ lbs. at times is not fun at all. But I DO enjoy pulling just to see where I'm at... if for no other reason. That would be an interesting venture if maybe ONE of the upcoming "bigger" events would change the classes to include perhaps, say 132, 154, 154+ or even the 121 143 143+, although I do believe that the USAA events have done that in the past if I recall correctly. But I honestly think that was prior to the increase in female puller involvement. You know... I just had a thought and I will probably be corrected on this if I don't mention it..... after the announcement for last years' Vegas event, they added the 121 class... bad turnout... however, there was no added money, either. So, aside from that... I really think a well advertised 3rd class would work... if it is offered and the lighter girls don't compete? Well, then... I understand the division cut. LIGHTWEIGHT GIRLS... if you see where a class has been offered... you'd better get in touch with each other and make a committment to compete... or suffer the consequences of not having another offered... okay... I'm off my Saturday morning soapbox... RYAN- I think James was asking where the absense of the two pounds went.... check your post... maybe those guys are excluded from competing? BOB- I wish you the very, very best my friend!!! do well in Japan... as I KNOW you will... I'm sure that the next time Ryan quips about cutting off his leg to make weight, he won't say it, knowing there's someone out there that didn't have a choice in the matter...

Perfect thats exactly what should have been said on this topic. As for the men cringing over dropping their winnings 20 bucks to help out another class.. if thats the case and 20 bucks is that big a deal, they are in the wrong sport..so without offense intended...screw em.. lol
