I think it's going to be great.
It's TV- so you know there will have to be tension to make it compelling.

I like the fact that everyone is asking and talking about Arm Wrestling

^ that's all anyone in this sport could ask for.

The worst that can happen is it turns out to be Over The Top, because the sport will end up back in seedy bars for ten years. I hope that doesn't happen.
But people are wise to reality shows these days, so I think its a lot easier to overcome with a sponsor now than it was in 1987

if the goal is to entertain a certain demographic with drama and make believe...then its a success.
if the goal is to showcase armwrestling as a serious sport that contains serious athletes and real drama then it is a failure.
im on the fence about it. anything armwrestling that reaches primetime tv is great....but I think the producers underestimate the appeal of the professional side of armwrestling....I think that for the same budget a show that still had plenty of REAL drama and appeal could have been made rather than abandon warehouses, beer drinking, and fake ass wrestling matches. lol lest e forget all this effort for 200 bucks a piece???
people are not as dumb as the tv producers think...and the reality tv thing has been orchestrated to death....a little originality and thought would have been nice.

Well, that does leave a giant opening for anyone who can present the other side of it. Rather than be a me-too spinoff from GOA, there is a great opportunity to have a rival show based on the athletic side of things.
I still say there are only two ways to go.
Outlaw- jeans wearing, dirty bars, outcast, underground, dangerous image. (for which i think there's a huge audience) Over The Top / GOA
Professional - clean, athletic, Golf with Muscles and Attitude.
both sides of the sport exist. GOA is not far off the mark. The fight club aspect is a little silly, but it promotes an image that is sellable without being in a bar and having to blur out all the non-sponsor advertisements in every shot.

Show is awesome and it'd be better to appreciate pullers helping it grow. The hating is really annoying. I'm sure if most people had the skill it and or money to do thier own show ? They'd do it perfect..... Critics psh

The biggest head scratcher for me is how/who came up with the team members? Some of the transplants I get, but nearly every team has one or two less than stellar (even borderline novice) pullers on the it. Even with a killer backstory, I don't get that move.

I think they picked people who are good for TV. I remember Kelli Nelson saying something to that effect. That's the smart move. Folks at home don't know.

Yeah of course, but since they are gonna have to actually arm wrestle (other good armwrestlers) and wins/losses matter on the show, wouldn't it be a good idea to have good pullers who are also good characters on your team? It's not gonna be a good look for the guy who is a bum by the end of the season...

Story the character has, team dynamics, charisma. I think nyc and most of Erie are all teammates. I believe they filmed tons of teams around the USA, and picked the 5 most marketable for film. Novice or pro, everyone has a story, struggle etc.. plus each team has a member that the show wanted. And the person wasn't going without their team...
