The way it has been done for years is that Nationals is awarded to someone who wants to put it on. Let's say you want to host a Nationals next year. You put a package together (you line up a hotel, awards, sponsors, etc) and then you go present the package at this year's Nationals. In theory, there are several people who present a package and one is chosen. Which package gets chosen determines where Nationals is next year.
Just my .02, but this process would be greatly improved if the governing body simply took charge of hosting Nationals every year. That way they could plan several years in advance instead of treating every single Nationals like it was the first one ever held before. Right now, every Nationals basically starts from scratch like a grass-roots project. Okay, I'm exaggerating. A little bit.
Again, just my opinion.
If I was king, Nationals would be held every year at the cheapest destination possible. Pick a city with a major aiport serviced by most airlines that is also easy to get to by car (major highway intersection). It would be light years less expensive for people to attend.
Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, NYC, Los Angeles. You can get tickets to these places for peanuts if you watch for sales. Ground transportation to major hotels would be free or dirt cheap.
Or, just pick one of those cities and hold it at the same place every single year the way Petaluma was done for 40 years. At least people could plan.

Hey Jerry, You do not want it to alternate because then it will be 40 years until you get it next Seriously AAA is your best bet for a while, UAL has the unified for a couple of years and the USAA is locked into the east and Atlantic City next year. Karen is from Texas so she has a warm spot for the state......lobby her, convince her that you will support it. Frankly when we, USAF Unified National, did a southern National there was not much support. Now our Europa drew almost the same as the National events. Sincere thanks to you all that came.

Leonard, how much of that turnout, or lack of, would you attribute to the WAF host destination those years when turnout is low?
Then again, for a few years all turnout was pretty bad due to the economy.

I always voted against that for a couple of reasons. 1. Same city every year does lose the appeal of going to a new area and seeing something you have not been able to see before. 2. Sponsorship, which promoter is giving up a venue permanently. 3. Remember this is a group effort and who wants to give up the ability to host a National? 4. Being able to bid on a National is the only benefit to being a general member of USAF. 5. Knowing 12 months out seems to me to be plenty of time to plan but hey maybe I am last minute.

Then again, for a few years all turnout was pretty bad due to the economy. I understand but armwrestlers should still support a National that is that close regardless of whether you are going to Worlds. Heck this year 95% are not going. I admit that I was very disappointed in the end result, I really believed that the south would support a national in a central location.

Which nationals are you referring to in a central location this year? Sent from my SCH-I545 using proboards
