I'd like to invite everyone to THE BATTLE IN THE CAPITAL -- a big tournament I'm holding in Ottawa on November 6th. Full details can be found on the Maine home page, but here's the basic information:
There are pro and amateur divisions.
In each of the two divisions, there are three men's right hand classes, three men's left hand classes, and one women's right hand class.
The men's weight classes are 0-165 lbs (lightweight), 166-198 lbs (middleweight), and 199+ lbs (heavyweight). The classes are the same for both the right and left hand, as well as for the pro and amateur divisions.
The amateur classes are double elimination and there are trophies for the top three in each class.
The pro classes are TRIPLE ELIMINATION and there are cash prizes for the top five in each class (top three for the women's class).
The prizes for the men's pro classes are $500 for 1st place, $250 for 2nd, $150 for 3rd, $125 for 4th, and $100 for 5th. The cash prizes are the same for both the right and left hand classes.
The prizes for the women's right hand class are $250 for 1st place, $150 for 2nd, and $100 for 3rd.
There will also be trophies for the best match of the day and for the most sportsmanlike competitor.
This is going to be a big tournament, and many of Canada's top pullers will be there. I'm hoping that some pullers from the Northeast will make the trip -- it'll be a great chance to pull some different arms. I know the caliber of pullers in the Northeast is high and I think there is the potential for a lot of interesting match-ups to take place.
If you've never pulled in a triple elimination tournament, it's great. I've pulled at a few of them in Quebec and had an awesome time. Not only do you get to pull more, but it makes for more accurate standings.
If large classes, lots of pulling, and good prizes appeal to you, please seriously consider making the trip to this event. You'll have a blast!
