UPDATE 3/29/07
This is what the Dr told Tammy in her meeting today.
Vern had a major stoke the damage is to his brain stem. They cannot give him blood thinners to try to reduce the amount of blood in his brain because it may let the scab loose that stopped the bleeding.
They said when it has been 10 days the brain will start to repair its self. then they can tell more of what damage is done.
Positives for Vern is that he is young in good health and strong.
They will do a new Ct scan tomorrow.
They may put in a trach to reduce the irritation of his throat and also put a feeding tube in his stomach.
His movement may change day to day because he does have spinal cord function.
His hart rate and blood pressure had increased.
Don't know what caused it and it may happen again.
Tammy wants to thank everyone.
UPDATE 3/26/07
Today the started to reduce Verns Med's. They are looking for any type of voluntary movement. While they were moving him around he did lift his right arm. When he was doing that Tammy asked him to open his hand and he DID. That is one more positive. Most of his movement has been from his right side more than the left. Looks like they will do the Ct scan on Wed. unless they get more response from him tomorrow.
Verns bed can weigh him and he is at 96 kg I told him to day he needs to get out of that bed so he can make 86 kg for nationals and MI state.
Tammy wants to thank everyone for the prayers and well wishes.
Update 3-25-07 PM
Vern will be kept under for the next couple of days. Then he will have one more Ct scan. Their was no swelling of his brain today so that is good news. Its just a waiting game now.
Update 3-25-07 AM
Vern Made it threw the night. He will have a ct scan early today to see if they can let him come out of sedation. So they can start to tell what type of damage has been done. With him being on a ventilator he has developed pneumonia. He won his first match last night now for the next. I will update this afternoon.

This afternoon one of our fellow armwrestlers has started the battle of his life. Vern Lange was at work and stood up and said he had a headache shortly after that he was unconscious. He was taken to the hospital in St. Joseph MI. Where his family was told that he had a spontaneous brain bleed. Dr. told his wife and son that he only has a 10% chance to make it through the night. Vern has been in the sport of armwrestling for about 15 years and is one of the top 189lbs in the MI area and has held many state titles. Vern has been to nationals a few times and we hope to have him back on Team SHP and team Michigan Soon. Please keep Vern and his family in your thoughts as when he makes it through the night the next 3 to 5 days will be his next battle. When I left the Hospital Vern was in the ICU in stable condition. I will update when I get more info.
