Garret I generally love your posts but this is one we'll just have to disagree on, the following is from the link provided at the bottom. Posted by: Sean Carless on 04/07/2005 Hey all, I know it's been a while but I've been real lazy and umm, that's it. Anyway, I had every intention of having my next column feature my Fall promise of a "Mullet Hall of Fame," but then Warrior had to go and mess that all up. And as you'll see below, I'd be a fool if I passed up on this opportunity to stick it to Warrior (as in verbally...not actual anal penetration. Just want to keep that clear for Warrior...) Courtesy of Wrestling Observer: --Warrior did a speech at the University of Connecticut last night which turned into a free-for-all. Norm Mogyhtaderi, a sociology and history major said Warrior's beliefs were homophobic and racist. There was a major protest group and arguments back and forth, with Warrior screaming and stomping on the stage and saying he would answer all questions after his speech in a Q&AS format. Many people in the crowd were yelling and attacking him verbally as he spoke. Officers were called for back-up and the crowd was at one point told if they didn't stop, the speech would end. Warrior's actions were not supported in the end by the group that brought him, the College Republicans. "We are truly sorry that the Warrior did not measure up to our standards," said Heath Fahle, of the College Republicans .When it was over, the group even sent out a press release apologizing for his speech. They wanted Warrior to engage in a respectful debate. Warrior lost the crowd when he said, "differenting don't make the world work." When an Iranian student asked him a question, Warrior said he needed to "get a towel." As you can imagine, this caused another outburst. Other students then told Warrior he needed to apologize for the remark. Warrior showed a video where he ripped up an Iraqi flag. During the speech, Warrior admitted that he used steroids while in wrestling and called for other athletes to be as honest as he was on the subject. (thanks to Wes Jones) Well, it's a good thing things didn't get too out of hand, because I'd hate to see someone get methodically shouldertackled and splashed where they stood.. Anyway, what is it lately with all the heroes of my youth friendlying up? I mean, between Randy Savage trying to become the next Ice Cube (or in Randy's case, Ice Age), Hulk Hogan wrangling roosters, and Lex Luger being involved in high speed police chases, (just how fast can a 30 foot red, white and blue bus possibly go?) all the icons of my childhood are actually starting to make me seem like a normal adjusted person. Anyway, you have to love the irony of Warrior being a homophobe. I mean this is the same guy who wore make-up, little puce speedos, and finished his opposition by grabbing their balls, then fish-hooking their a-hole while pressing them to the heavens? Right? Am I wrong? Hey, I'm not exactly ultra-liberal or anything, but hey, let he who hasn't rolled around with oily men cast the first stone.... Anyway, I wanted to go into how Warrior's views sicken me and such, but let's be frank, the real hilarity lies in the fact that these people, staunch conservatives no less, bought a ticket to LISTEN TO A GUY WHO CHANGED HIS NAME TO WARRIOR SPEAK. "We are truly sorry that the Warrior did not measure up to our standards?" THE GUY’S NAME IS WARRIOR, what did you think the speech was going to be about, muffins? I mean, seriously, chances are, when your key note speaker's name is WARRIOR, you may not be in for the most reputable evening. And hey, I have nothing against guys named Warrior; in fact, my uncle's name is Warrior, but when you go ahead and change your name to something like Warrior, it may not exactly convey the best judgment, just saying. I can only imagine how difficult it would be to go through airport customs with a handle like that. "Anything to declare, umm, Warrior?" "Can I get you some more peanuts, Warrior?" ... "No, thanks. Warrior is full." Man, must be tough. Anyway, the blatant racism he showed toward the Arab-American student is not so easy to defend however. Although, I'll try... See, the way I see it, Warrior took out his aggressions on the student if only because he still harbors a general rage towards the Middle East. I think it's fairly obvious that Warrior is probably still holding grudges over losing his WWF Title to Sgt. Slaughter in 1991, who as we all know was an IRAQI SYMPATHIZER. And if you believe the WWF at the time (and I have no reason not to....) it was SADDAM HUSSEIN who put Slaughter up to this NEFARIOUS tragedy. Sure, some people may feel that Warrior's resentment may stem from his ultra right-wing beliefs, but I think we all know better. Clearly I think we can all tell what the bigger issue is here. If someone went out and stole my colored belt (that by the way NO ONE ELSE HAS EVER OWNED) I would want to lay into them with the heavy artillery (Weapons of mass Destrucity?) Anyway, regardless, I think it's time to throw in the towel (no pun-intended) on all this hate, Warrior man. I say for the sake of good will, we need to bury our differences (presumably out in the Iraqi desert with all the other "Weapons of mass destruction...”) and move on with our lives. I must have missed the point of this subject. Why did he rip the Iraqi flag?
