The jewish people take very seriously the law of moses and very strictly. as they should. And for this i am encouraged by Gabe Yaks attempt to follow the law, however that is a whole other subject that i hope to touch on
They observe the commandmant "thou shalt not take the lords name in vain"
The origional hebrew transcripts write the name of God as (in a pronouncable enlish writing) YHWH.
this is where we get the name YaHWeH.
But for fear of mispronouncing, or Taking the name in vain. When they would come to this they would simply sustitute it by saying "lord" or Adoni (sp)
Eventually they even stopped writng it and instead wrote "Lord" (in hebrew of course)
Somehow during the translation of the septuigant (translation from hebrew to greek) They wrote "Jehovah".
Many would think that Jehovah is the name of God which you can still call him that but thats is not accurate all as far as translation goes.
Truth is: God has many names. When the law states "thou shalt not use the name in vain". It is refering to and not limited to:
1: misuse of the lords name; for many different reasons
2: and classifying God as any other God.
Dont throw the name of God in there with Buddah
He is the king of Kings and Lord of Lords and is not to be refered to as just another God.
3: considering God as unholy or common (proly the same as #2)
It was not meant to be taken in the sense of mispronouncing his name or mentioning his name.
There is no other name that has the power of the name of God.

Is "God" a name or a title?

Both I would say It is who he is and it is what he is. But if you were to be precise its more of a title. YHWH Yaweh Jehovah Adonai Jesus Many many more.....are his "names" Jehovah raffah Jehovah Jirah Jehovah Nissi Jehovah Sitkanu Jehovah Shalom El-shaddai IAM THAT I AM The Advocate The Resurrection The Life The Lion of the Tridbe of Judah The Lamb of God The son of David The Son of God The son of man The lilly of the valley Many many more Most of the hebrew words are spelled wrong but sound it out and you get the idea Yahweh can replace the name Jehovah to be more accurate

The lord is are saviour. PERIOD!!!!! What ever name you want to call the eternal flame within our souls you can. It will never change!!!!! Not to many people know that my heart belongs only to him and his sacrifices. I am jew by blood, but lutheran by choice. Your name lord is the sun, the moon, glitter off the water, the morning fog that enchants me for hours on end. You are everything and yet nothing without hope. Praise be the lord with glory at his right hand, and forgivness at his left. Listen close brothers and sisters; Can you hear zion song? I part this message with a quote that all of you should learn and live by. "What fickle angels are we if divided brothers we slay?" Never forgett that we all are the lesser lights of heaven.

that sounded like a song, what song or poem is that?
His name is only what he calls himself. We cant make up new ones. (just to throw that out there)
Jesus is the only light in this world, and only through the born again believers can that light be shown throughout this world.
