This thought just hit me the other day so i figured id share it with you guys.
There are no exact prophecies of the name of Christ in the old testament. I mean the name "JESUS" There are plenty other things we would call him but not his actual name when he is born on the earth.
Or is there?
One man tried to point out an inconsistency of the bible a while back.
He said "how did Moses write the 5 books if he died before the last one was finished?".
Well, scholars believe that Joshua finished writing the books. Joshua was Moses’ right hand man and took over after Moses passing. The book of “Joshua is the 6th book in the bible after the Pentateuch (5 books of law). It is safe to assume that Joshua did finish writing it.
You would definitely not be in error if you assume that, because it makes perfect sense and backs up scripture 100%. (Matt 5:17 17. Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill) Moses was the giver of the law and Joshua finished writing it. The Law was Given and Jesus fulfilled it.
Most people would say that Jesus name is not mentioned in the old testament. But I beg to differ. Joshua’s name was no accident.
The Name: Hosea into Joshua:- The original name of Joshua was Hosea ("saves"), and Moses changed it into Joshua ("God's salvation"), and it was significant of the services he was to render, and typified those of a greater Savior, Jesus (Heb.1:8, Num.13:8).
- Jesus did the same with Peter, from Simon (soft), into Peter (rock), And I tell you that you are Peter (Rock), and on this rock I will build my church, (Mat.16:16).
The Names Joshua and Jesus:
- Joshua and Jesus are really the same name. Both from the Hebrew Yehoshua or Yeshua, in Greek Joshua, in English Jesus, which means, "he will save". Joshua will provide a temporal salvation and Jesus an eternal one,
- The New Testament says that Mary would bring forth a son "and call his name Jesus, for he shall save his people from their sins." (Matthew 1:21).
Joshua and Jesus Roles: Leaders of Israel:- Joshua: "Because of you the Lord became angry with me also and said, "You shall not enter it, either. But your assistant, Joshua son of Nun, will enter it. Encourage him, because he will lead Israel to inherit it." (Deut. 1:37-38).
- Jesus: "'But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will be the shepherd of my people Israel.'" (Matt. 2:6)
Appointed by God:
Joshua was appointed by God, his mission was not inherited... Jesus was appointed by God, his mission was not inherited.
