WHY is there such a group? HOW did it get started? WHEN did it get started? Is there really a NEED for this group? Although portrayed as something honorable, what is the true purpose of it? I post this only to point out that this type stuff forms resentment, when it clearly states the intent of advocating a social/racial group to empower a different race, instead of equality. WHY do such a thing? (And no, I am not doing it here) www.2theadvocate.com/news/7305936.html

I, for one, fail to see any problem with it. The article says nothing about empowering a race, it says that the purpose was to empower the mayors.
We are focused on empowering and equipping our growing network of African-American mayors across the entire United States,” said Bowser, who is mayor of East Orange, N.J.

when was the last time you saw a meeting of White Mayors to discuss the future of White mayors in America?? And would it be accepted....Oh yeah...that is why the wear hoods. (if they did)
I think it is appalling that it is accepted to have "black only groups" yet racist to have white only groups. I think it is all bad. We all bleed one color...RED.

There are plenty of them......
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A black Tennessee lawmaker lamenting his exclusion from the state's White Legislative Caucus claimed Tuesday the group was less accommodating that even the Nation of Islam.
"My understanding is that the NoI doesn't even ban members by race," said Rep. Stacey Campfield, adding that the NoI "has less racist bylaws" than the white lawmakers' group.
The freshman Democrat from Knoxville was rebuffed earlier this year when he asked for the White Caucus' bylaws and inquired about joining. There are 18 white state lawmakers in Tennessee.

What I see...is that when it happens on the other side it is publicized as a good thing. Main stream media supports it as well. This guy is very racist and he gets media coverage all of the time. It is disgusting Louis Farrakhan en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louis_Farrakhan

Is it any different than The Black CaucusBetter yet click on THIS SITEMy goodness, the list goes on and on!Chris, this is the kind of stuff which harbors more animosity towards different races; the blatant discrimination they spew forth which contradicts their own gripes towards what they SPECULATE the white race is doing. You may not be exposed to this on this level, but we, who have to live in the depths of it, are. We are getting the bad wrap for discrimination the blacks, themselves, are practicing. As Gary said, let a white person have something as the blacks do; the sh*t will hit the fan. Something as simple as having White Presidents Day ... watch the uproar. The people will forget about Black History Month...just watch the chaos. Does this write-up in the original link I posted have more to do with the fact they are Mayors, or Black Mayors?

Would you rather they not get together? And, why do you feel threatened by it?

Would you rather they not get together? And, why do you feel threatened by it? I am not threatened...I(the white mayors) am/are ommitted. That is the problem they have with usKey words in your post.....'they spew', 'speculate' and 'we'. I'm done on this thread. No need to get angry about this. This is a debate and it is civil on my part. By you reading into me saying "they", "speculate", and "we" shows me you are looking through the same glasses they are - one sided. Am I not to use those words? Is it taboo or something? This apparently hit a nerve and that is not my intent. I truly wanted to know why they (blacks) can do it and it be acceptable. Can you please answer that before you completely leave this thread, Chris? You and I have seen eye-to-eye on a lot of things and it concerns me that you are offended by this. edited: I included, "white mayors" Also, I am not a mayor

I owe Allen an apology. I reread his original post, and it was I that off the mark on this. Allen, your post was food for thought, and I am truly sorry for turning it( in my head) into something it wasn't. I should've considered further the poster before I jumped, no, leaped, to my stance. Sorry Bud, truly I am.

AMERICAN. I think adding a hyphenated ethnic prefix, just drives a wedge between us all. In Canada, we are starting to see it more now; people aren't just Canadian, they are French-Canadian or African-Canadian. Sad really.

Allen, you're asking why, how, and when did this group start which are normal questions to ask I guess, but you're also asking what is this group's purpose.
Then though, you say "this is the kind of stuff which harbors more animosity towards different races; the blatant discrimination they spew forth which contradicts their own gripes towards what they SPECULATE the white race is doing."
I'm at a loss here. You don't know the origin or purpose of this group but you say it harbors animosity and that it spews discrimination. Where did you find that?
I'm also curious - were you born and raised in Louisiana?
