I do tech support for apple computers and figure that I would offer free assistance to my fellow pullers.
I don't do much for the older machines running OS 9 or older. But anything Running OS X I should be able to help you out unless it's for sure a hardware issue.

Very cool of you to offer your services, Smash! I just bought a new Macbook (not Pro) for home use . I was a die-hard Mac user from 1987 till 2000, when work forced me into the throes of Wintel's blue death... Still have an SE/30 in the basement . Apple tech support - must be kind of like the Maytag repairman...

They are a GSM phone and you can use them all over the world (where there is GSM coverage). But.... They are still locked to U.S AT&T SIM cards. SO, You will be paying some INSANE raoming fees ;D

Black 2 Gb RAM 120 Gb HD Wireless Sony USB mouse (also black) from the Sony showroom during a recent trip to Tokyo I've heard Apple is a good place to work. Plus, they cut you some sweet deals on their systems...

Yeah, We get some decent deals. Plus there are things you can do that get free 30 Gb Ipot video's and things like working overtime hours and stuff. How often do you run Disk utility on your computer? How often do you reset your PRAM?

Took delivery about 8 weeks ago - haven't run Disk Util or reset PRAM yet. I was under the impression Disk Utility was primarily for diagnoses and repairs; although I know you can do disk partitioning or create disk images. Similarly, I thought zapping the PRAM was used to repair certain problems, and that it required resetting some of the options in the System Prefs. (chooser and control panel of old...).
Are these things I should do routinely as a preventative measure? How often?
Yeah, black doesn't show the semi-permanent smudging as easily as white would. Plus, it looks cooler, esp. with the glossy screen.

Resetting Pram is Great when you notice your computer stating up slow or shutting down slower than normal or not starting up at all. Also if you notice any weird hardware issues.
Same goes for Verifying and Repairing disk permissions in DISK UTILITY. (make sure you select the name of your hard drive on the far left side. Do NOT select the MAKE/SIZE of your harddrive on the left side of the disk utility windown. Also used to treat startup/shutdown issues. - Always do these 2 steps before installing updates and after installing updates for the O.S. - If you notice applications running slow or choppy or not opening at all. Use these steps.
I'm a BIG Fan on the Glossy screen.

PRAM you can do whenever you are having problems.
Disk permissions you should do before installing updates and whenever you notice the computer running slower than normal or when having problems with applications.

Great tips. Thanks! I knew about the PRAM ideas, but wasn't aware of disk permissions and update installs!
