I am not against electric cars or hybrids. I hope everyone who wants one gets one. Just like handguns and tattoos. I think hybrids get 60 mpg on highway? I've seen similiar size turbo diesels get 45 - 50 mpg. The Volkswagen TDI gets 50 or so and would whup ass over any hybrid in a drag race.

Gary do the simple math. Changed numbers for example
36K/12 = 3000 3000/17=176.5 gllns times $3 min gas = 530. per month on gas 3000/50 = 60 gllns times $3 min gas = 180. per month That gives you approximately 350 savings a month. How much would the difference in car payment be? If the payment is close, its a no brainer. If its not or you need a bigger vehicle, well then stick with the explorer.

actually JD...I had done the exact math and it does work out that I would probably about break even but would get a new car out of the deal since i would be getting rid of my my ranger and the explorer would become the back up vehicle and hybrid the main.
...but i thought maybe Toddzilla would have some fancy thing I hadn't thought of as to why a hybrid would be bad.

I figured that, and getting the new car like a hybrid, that in your area has a better resale value is probably a smart choice. i am sure Todd will have something for you. I was just thinking about the simple common factors. You know me I do the numbers

A guy at work is doing cool things with EVs. The site security guys weren't happy when he left about 1000 miles' worth of tire on the pavement in the parking lot several years ago... www.austinev.org/evalbum/014.html'Zilla: you may have a little extra appreciation for Bill's Electwik Wabbit... www.haritech.com/wabbit.htmlI hear good things about the KillaCycle too!

Well, if you are interested in a hybrid, the Civic or the accord is the best bet. Once upon a timeI worked at a dealership that sold 13 brands of cars. The prius was good, but the honda s always outsold it, plus the accord is much biggher for the same cost.
If price isnt an issue you can get a 300 plus horsepower Lexus SUV hybrid for 50K that gets the gas mileage of a subcompact. Its the lexus RX 400 H. This car is awesome. Plus its a Full SUV
