NEW INFO for NOVICE~~ READ BELOW ALL- I'm looking for some advice or your opinion on this idea- As you may see, I'm helping run a tournament Saturday the 21st. This would be considered a local tourny, some very decent guys, but not all great, not all bad. There will be some new/novice guys, but maybe not enough to justify full novice classes. So, to be fair, I'm doing this: There will be two " Second Chance" Novice classes. So, everyone enters their open class. The first two guys in each class, who get two losses and are out of thier class, enter into the second chance portion. This is done automaticlly. These are then split by weight into two "Novice" classes. They then pull to see who is the awarded winner of the novice class. This way the guys who are " out in two" get the benifit of more matches, against others who were " out in two" and are more evenly matched. We then give the winner his Trophy, for each class. This helps us running it as we dont have to have all the novice classes, that probably wouldnt get filled, and helps the actual novice get more pulls and awarded. What do you think? Since its a local level tourny, we are not rich, and since we cant have full novice and pro classes, nor need them, helps us as well. Do you like this idea? Anything you would change? I want new guys to get pulls, and have fun, but avoid 40 classes that dont fill up. Thanks for any advice!

no Brian- you will be in whatever class you are supposed to by weight. If for some reason you lose your first two matches you are out of the class per normal rules. Unlike normal, where you would then be done for the day, you then get put into a second chance class, of which there will be two. weight not set, but lets say 185 and under, 185 and over. You then compete in this second class. So even if you dont win one match all day, you will have 4 matches! Most all of us have drove a long way to compete, and being new, gone out in two. This is to make sure everyone gets more matches, and if you are new, or just not that good yet, the second class is only made up of other guys who are new, or just not that good yet, making it more fair. ( they will have lost their first two as well to be in the class) This is being done to hope everyone leaves there feeling they learned, and got some good pulls in. I have been bounced out of a tourney 5 minutes after it began once, no fun.

Jim, are they using a strap if you slip, or do they start in hook?

Half hook on slip-saves time, easier for the newer guys. I know some dudes dont like this, but its how Bob runs things, and everyone has to do it, so equal in that regard.
